On Thursday, December 5th, the People’s Organization for Progress will host a special membership meeting to escalate its new membership drive to mark its 30thanniversary.
The meeting will take place at 6:30p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, located at 100 Montgomery Street in Newark.  Enter through the parking lot entrance on Prince Street. The church is right behind Abyssinian Baptist Church where POP regularly meets.

“In the name of Trayvon Martin, in the name of Rosa Parks, in the name of Martin Luther King and Malcolm X, in the name of Earl Faison, in the name of 26 million people out of work, in the name of more pushed into poverty everyday onto a shrinking safety net, in the name of all of all the foreclosure victims and police brutality victims who constantly come to us for justice, it is time grow our membership to increase our influence and power to help the people get the justice they deserve,” said a passionate Larry Hamm, the organization’s founding chairman.

The organization is pursuing a membership goal of 1000 new members by August 2014. The first meeting to address the new membership campaign took place in October.

Persons wishing to join the organization can call 973 801 0001 and ask for a membership application. On Facebook, persons can also request a membership application, or they can simply come to the organization’s weekly general membership meeting every Thursday at Abyssinian Baptist Church, 224 West Kinney Street, Newark at 6:30pm.

Bernard White, former program director for WBAI-FM, will also be a special guest. He will give an update and an analysis regarding the status of that uniquely progressive radio station as it struggles with its most serious financial crisis in recent years.
