about the director, Nisa Ra:
Nisa Ra, a longtime Philadelphia resident is a native of San Francisco Bay Area and a graduate of University of California, Berkeley with a degree in African American Studies and a minor in Film.
She is a trailblazing entrepreneur who operated one of Olde City Philadelphia’s original boutique/galleries, The Bird of Paradise International Boutique and Gallery which showcased the work of many local and international artists, artisans, designers, and poets including Ntozake Shange, Cal Massey, Jonathan Pinkett, Tom McKinney, Ellen Tiberino, Ursula Rucker, and Lamont Steptoe.
In line with her dedication to art as activism, Ra, founded the Malcolm X Film Festival, which presents cultural and educational films in the spirit and legacy of the revolutionary icon.
Ra is also the author of short stories and a children’s book in development. She has worked and traveled extensively around the world including Asia, Africa, Europe, and The Caribbean.
