For the 18th year, UBUS Communications Systems are presenting Black Book Awards for Excellence in Black Literature: June 5, 6 & 7, 2009 – Friday evening and open house all day Saturday and Sunday 10 am to 10 P.M. at Khalifah’s Estates, located at the Birthplace of Nat Turner in Southampton County, Virginia.This event started out as a means to insure maximum visibility to writers that we publish (over 600 to date and counting); but it soon found a greater expression. Now it is industry-wide for The Black Publishing Business, including printing and distribution of all books written by, for or about Black people. Indeed, one of the most celebrated of all Black writers in the United States of America, Sister Shahrazad Ali began to refer to The First Weekend in June as “Black Literary Weekend.”We are very serious about the overall importance of such a weekend to celebrate black literature: The validating and celebrating of all things that are essential to our complete freedom. But the promotion opportunities to talk about your work, answer questions by aspiring-to-be writers and sell some books will not be found anyplace else in America.So whether you are already published, want to be published; buy or sell books, you are invited to attend the 18th Black Book Awards. The first 50 respondents will be scheduled to present “Mini-workshops.” Registration is free. Of course you are required to pay for the Awards Banquet Dinner; and to take the Tour of the Nat Turner Trail on Sunday afternoon.Every literary product that is accepted and nominated will receive a 2009 Black Book Award Certification.
