We launched our campaign to Stop “Stop & Frisk” very powerfully on Oct 21st with nonviolent civil disobedience at the 28th police precinct in Harlem. And we have plans to build off the momentum we’ve created.
On Tuesday, Nov 1st, we’re taking out campaign into Brooklyn. We’ll be gathering at 4 PM at the Tilden Projects at Rockaway & Livonia Aves for a rally, followed by a march to the 73rd police precinct in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn, where another civil disobedience will be held. (This precinct does more stops under Stop & Frisk than any other precinct in NYC.) At 2 PM on Saturday, Oct 29th, we will be holding a meeting to plan this action and to further organize and plan out this campaign. This meeting will be at the Marcus Garvey Holistic Center which is located at 51-05 Church Ave. in Brooklyn.
In the Call to Stop “Stop & Frisk” that I co-issued with Cornel West, we said:
“If you are sick and tired of being harassed and jacked up by the cops, if you have had enough of seeing your brothers and sisters, your cousins, your aunts and uncles and fathers stepped to and disrespected by the cops, if you don’t want to live in a world where people’s humanity is routinely violated because of the color of their skin, JOIN US.”
If you agree with that, then you need to get on a mission to help make Nov 1st, and our campaign overall, as powerful as it needs to be, and can be.
There are a few key things you need to do.
1) 20 people have signed up to participate in the civil disobedience on Nov 1st, answering the challenge to be this generation’s version of the Freedom Riders. You need to join them. If you aren’t ready to get arrested, you should still come out on Nov 1st and stand in solidarity with us.
2) Spread the word everywhere. Let everybody know that we’re going to Brooklyn on Nov 1st and challenge them to be there with us.
3) Give money and encourage others to contribute money to help make this possible. To make a tax deductible contribution, write a check to the Alliance for Global Justice, with "mass incarceration" in the memo line and mail it to the Stop Mass Incarceration Network at PO Box 941, New York, NY 10002.
Stop & Frisk is illegal, unconstitutional and intolerable. Join us in stopping it.
