The U.S.'s so-called War on Terror, the willingness of U.S. citizens to give up their basic civil rights in exchange for 'safety', and the continued militarization of U.S. borders and communities - has been built on the belief of constant threat from both outside and within.
Manufacturing fear has long been a tool to create an emotional environment of dependency and willingness that allows state transgressions. In this screening and panel, we will explore the history and current state of civil and human rights violations created and justified by threats manufactured, funded, and planned by the FBI and other law enforcement agencies.
In addition to screening clips of 2 films on the topic, we will speak with and learn from family members of those currently serving time for state manufactured 'crimes', as well as legal professionals and scholars familiar with these and related cases.
Childcare will be provided.
Support graciously provided by the American Friends Service Committee.
