On Sunday January 15, 2012 CEMOTAP will hold a Legal Support Fundraiser for Brother Shaka Shakur at CEMOTAP Center located at 135-05 Rockaway Boulevard South Ozone Park Queens NY.
Brother Shaka Shakur (slave name Sherrod Dubois) is home after being released from Bronx Criminal Court on his own recognizance thanks to the diligent work of activist attorney Michael Tarif Warren and the political even of veteran Black Panther and Zulu Nation leader Bro. Shep, who sounded the community alarm on both phone and the internet.
Shaka, coordinator of the Peoples Survival Program in Harlem was arrested at work after a taskforce of police agents raided his home in the Bronx with a baseless warrant. In the course of the raid the police also took the opportunity to raid the home of veteran Black Panther Cyril "Bullwhip" Innis(without a warrant).
Bro. Bullwhip's home, has in the past, been one of the places of storage of the archives of the Black Panther Partys legacy. Bro. Bullwhip was not arrested.
Brother Shaka Shakur was apparently targeted because of his long time community activism.
Shaka has been one of the younger generations leaders who has followed the example of a earlier generation of Black Panthers who dedicated themselves to "Serve the People" programs. His work in the Peoples Survival Program, street gangs and against innercity violence have been exemplary.
Trained by numerous veteran Panthers, he first became known for his support of US captured Political Prisoners & work against police terrorism during the 90s with the Black Panther Collective. Shaka later carried on this work as Chairman for The New Black Panther Party in NYC.
As a "Revolutionary Hip Hop" recording artist for Maroon Records; Shaka has most recently been working with both The Nat Turner Collective and The Peoples Survival Program's "Serve The People" projects, which provide free health screenings, meals and clothing on the streets for those in need.
The Press should direct their inquiries to Attorney Michael Tarif Warren; Bro.
