Sankofa International Inc., is a U.S. based nonprofit organization that assists in the enhancement of the quality of lives of Africans living in Africa. The organization aims to convert rural African villages into self-sustaining model villages. Sankofa International operates in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Tanzania.

In May 2010 together with Sankofa International Youth Ghana, Sankofa International launched their National Scholarship Program (also referred to as 'Program') to assist Ghanaians living in Ghana. The Scholarship Program is available at junior high, senior high, vocational, technical and tertiary levels. The scholarships offer subsidisation of school fees, books, accomodation, and spending money. There is a guarantee of one scholarship on offer at each registration cycle, with three registration cycles offered per year. Multiple scholarships may be awarded during one registration cycle depending on the number of registrations.

The previous dates of Registration Cycle 2 are available at the Sankofa National Scholarship Program Registration Tour Schedule webpage.

There have been some recent changes to the selection criteria and dates of the upcoming registration rounds.

Changes to Registration Cycle 2

Richard Willis, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sankofa International advised Kabissa.org on the changes to the dates of the Cycle 2 registration period:

“To ensure full compliance with Ghana laws governing Non-Governmental Organizations and the effective utilization of best practices pertaining to administrative policies and procedures, the decision has been made to modify the selection criteria for the subject Program. We guarantee the new selection criteria will continue to be fair to everyone and give all, who choose to participate, equal opportunity. Accordingly, the decision has been made to postpone Registration Cycle 2 until the new selection criteria has been finalized, Sankofa Team training has been completed, etc.

You will receive a copy of the new selection criteria and official rules upon completion. They will also be posted on Sankofa's web site: www.sankofaintl.org The plan is to announce the new schedule, for Registration Cycle 2, in early 2012. These decisions are critical to protect the long-term interest of the Program. You deserve the very best and our goal is to give it to you. Your patience, as we strengthen the Program for you, is greatly appreciated.”
