Where did Bill de Blasio and John Liu draw more voter support than Bill Thompson in 2009? Who fared better in key African American, Caribbean and Asian communities in the 2009 primaries and runoffs, Bill de Blasio or John Liu? And what do historic voting patterns suggest for this fall’s elections? You can find out these answers and more by attending a conference on September 4th on “The role of the immigrant vote in the NYC 2013 elections.”

At the conference, hosted by the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism’s Center for Community and Ethnic Media, we will explore new data and maps produced by the Center for Urban Research (CUR) at the CUNY Graduate Center that provide demographic details about immigrant and ethnic groups across the city, voting patterns for many of these groups, and what these patterns suggest about this fall’s elections.

The CUR presentation will be followed by a panel of experts who will analyze the city’s ethnic politics, and then by a panel of editors from community and ethnic publications who will discuss how this information can inform political coverage.
