  • Liberation is Impossible without Consciousness; Consciousness is Impossible without READING

Zhana, with the colonization of Africa by Britain, Portugal, France, Italy and Germany began in 1870s, then formalized with the 1884 Berlin Conference, and the robbery and rape of both the continent and its people was sanctioned and made "legal" by the "royal families", the church and the ruling class the dehumanization of African began.  To justify the inexcusable horrific Hellacaust {Maafa} experimentation of People of African Descent, since that time, till this day, white has religiously taught the world that We are less than human, which meant and means that killing, raping, robbing, exploiting us is not a crime against humanity, cause We ARE NOT HUMANS IN THEIR EYES!

Zhana, you have to open your mind to the truth of the Black Experience when dealing with white supremacist.  We call that experience the Maafa {aka The Hellacaust}.  Our survival through the Maafa is only through God's Grace of internal strength and his divine presence in each of us.  Please Zhana, read the book The Black Holocaust for Beginnings by S. Anderson to help your grasp the viciousness of the people with power over the powerless.  Hopefully, it will help you understand why Frederick Douglass said, "Let me give you a word of the philosophy of reform.  The whole history of the progress of human liberty shows that all concessions yet made to her august claims have been born of earnest struggle.  The conflict has been exciting, agitating, all-absorbing, and for the time being, putting all other tumults to silence.  It must do this or it does nothing.  If there is no struggle there is no progress.  Those who profess to favor freedom and yet deprecate agitation are men who want crops without plowing up the ground; they want rain without thunder and lightning.  They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters.

This struggle may be a moral one, or it may be a physical one, and it may be both moral and physical, but it must be a struggle.  Power concedes nothing without a demand.  It never did and it never will.  Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them, and these will continue till they are resisted with either words or blows, or with both.  The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress.  In the light of these ideas, Negroes will be hunted at the North and held and flogged at the South so long as they submit to those devilish outrages and make no resistance, either moral or physical. Men may not get all they pay for in this world, but they must certainly pay for all they get.  If we ever get free from the oppressions and wrongs heaped upon us, we must pay for their removal.  We must do this by labor, by suffering, by sacrifice, and if needs be, by our lives and the lives of others."

Zhana, when do WE stop be innocently naïve about the nature of evil?  At that point does innocent naiveté become what Dr. King called conscientious stupidity.  Zhana, please recognize that Dr. King said, "I am not interested in power for power's sake, but I'm interested in power that is moral, that is right and that is good."  Black Power is than Moral Power that Dr. King was looking and his even evolved to understand that truth.  That's why he said, "I fear we are integrating into a burning house."

Finally, Zhana, please realize that Dr. King also said, "We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hateful words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people."  If you are one of the silence good people, We will have to repent for your appalling silence as well.  Otherwise, please stop opposing Black Power for Black People and realize that We need Black Power for self-defense and self protection, as proven by the TRUTH of history and white supremacist need for and managing of a controlled environment.  The New Afrikans, and Native-born Africans, true liberation is impossible without reading and comprehending the true nature of white supremacy. Then us being willing and able to acquire Black Power, by any means necessary, as the opposing force to the misnomer of white supremacy.

    • Brotha Lukata, if you have read any of my blog posts about Black history or African history, you know I am well aware of what happend during the Maafa, and of the fact that we are still living with the consequences now.  Don't make assumptions about my level of knowledge.

This post links to some of my other African history posts.  Plus I have published an ebook, Why We Need to Heal, about the consequences of historical racism on Black/African commmunities. And about what we can do about this.

My work is about solutions.  I am talking about creating a better future.  We need to be aware of our power, stop pretending we are powerless.  The only way to bring about positive change is to use the power we have, not to deny it and pretend white people have all the power.  They don't.  White supremacy, as I have already said, is an example of "power over", not "power with".  You need to open your mind to new possibilities.

Make no mistake - when our communities are thriving, all communities will benefit.  I am not talking about Black vs white.  I am talking about creating a better future.  We need to learn from the past, but we do not have to keep living it.

      • Asante for your work and your perspective.  i only hope & pray that collectively We, People of African Descent, also begin to think soulutions and work to together to bring our visions to fruition.

But through it all, i know that We can not forget the past, Maafa and/or the criminal against our humanity.

        • I agree, Brotha.  We need to work together collectively.  And we need more than vision - we need to take action.

For me, it is NOT about forgetting the past.  It's about learning from it so that we can move forward - Sankofa.

I believe safety is important to you - your own safety and that of your children, your loved ones and your community.

I also think respect and dignity are important to you.  Do you agree?

  • It's not about "Black people wanting to share power with others", I was talking about about power with rather than power over.  There would have to be a mutual desire to share power, and that is achievable.

White power is about domination.  That is "power over", not "power with".

I agree with you that we need to "agree in practice, not words, to EQUALLY share power".  I think that is obvious.  And the way to create this is through communication.  When we have the skills, we can transform these situations.

    • Zhana - the NVC (Nonviolent Communication) is not for the powerless or the dominated.  that is conversation for the dominators.  New Afrikans must first acquire power in order to challenge the status quo or We simply continue to extent a hand and pull back a numb.  New Afrikans has always welcomed power with but not having any power our voices have never been heard.  our voice must be strong!  our method of creating change must come from any means necessary.  uncompromisingly!

  • It's not about conceding power.  Instead of "power over", we need to share "power with".  Communication, not domination.  Check it out:  Connecting across Differences.

    Dian Killan, Connecting across Differences
Dian Killan, Connecting across Differences NVC (Nonviolent Communication) trainer and author Dian Killan explains in the interview below...
    • it's hard to understand why Black People wanna share power with others who DON'T believe We can even handle power cause they still don't believe you a human.  i think Zhana, the message you present must be sold to those who have been and continue to favor domination.  when they agree in practice, not words, to EQUALLY share power, then We can begin thinking of shared power.  in the meantime, lets continue to do what rapper common said, lets extent a hand of friendship to white power and continue to pull back a numb.

  • Asyla Ten Holt has the right idea - "Plant, Grow & Care".  Elaborating, i would said the fertile soil where We plant is the minds of our children.  The seeds We plant are HOPE (Highly Optimistic Personal Esteem) & SEEDS (Self-Efficacy; Endurance; Determination; and Scholarship).

At the same time, We plant Vision of Power in the minds of the parents through projects like
