I have been a long time advocate for films that express diversity; in front of and behind the camera. We can claim our own victories if not one step at a time...

Support Black Movie Month
Please support Film Life, Inc's. partnership with Black Enterprise and Uptown Magazine. They will launch an online public awareness campaign to rally global audiences in support of Black Cinema.

Its purpose is to celebrate and heighten awareness of films made for, by and about persons of African descent, and stimulate sales of Black movies across varied platforms, demonstrating the economic viability and influence of Black audiences.

The site will have six calls to action along with a media player where consumers can send in their thoughts and feeling on why Black Movie Month is important, as well as sign a petition in support of Black films that will be sent to the major film studios in Hollywood.

They are looking to get at least 200,000 signatures in support of this initiative.

  • while believe in "black cinema", i do not believe that we should have to diversify our messages in "our films". considering the power of the big screen in shaping our thinking, we should be producing films that heighten our self image with the truth of our story, whether the film is a doc or entertainment.

and we need to support of the artist in our communities. they need to step-up and support initiatives outside of hollywood. speaking for mississippi, we need to see celebrities speaking to the james craig anderson murder case in jackson, mississippi (see the video an cnn) and the frederick carter hanging in greenwood mississippi (see the story in the final call). we need them to attend the National Justice Conference in jackson, mississippi April 2-4, 2012, as we commemorate the loss of Dr. King and rededicate people power to his dream of "a true revolution of value will soon cause us to question the fairness and justice of many of our past and present policies..." (said Dr. King).
