A CALL FOR PEACE WILL RESONATE ON JULY 21, 2012 ON LONG ISLAND
-- Legendary R&B and Hip Hop Performers Featured at Community Event Aimed to Combat Violence Among Urban Youth --
The Kareem D. Sapp Foundation, Inc. a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization whose mission is to engage urban youth in activities that enable them to expand their perspectives and to build the self-esteem and self confidence to pursue constructive options for their futures will be hosting A Call for Peace on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at the African American Museum located at 110 North Franklin Street, Hempstead, NY from 12:00pm - 4:00pm.
The Kareem D. Sapp Foundation, Inc. was established in 2008 by Thomas Sapp Jr., father of Kareem D. Sapp who was tragically murdered a year earlier. Mr. Sapp’s aim in establishing the Foundation was to channel the hurt and pain he experienced in a positive manner, with a mission to unite the community by first reaching the youth, with efforts involving love and support.
Since its inception, the Foundation has become a leading champion for the cause of raising community awareness. In addition, the Foundation’s executives have committed to speaking out about the influx of violence amongst the youth in the community, and have also conducted workshops in the local junior and senior high schools about the prevention of gang violence, anti-bullying, anger management and deterring the use of illicit drugs amongst the youth. The formula utilized by the Foundation which infuses entertainment with positive messages and powerful keynote speakers has been exceptionally effective.
The July 21, 2012 event, A Call for Peace, was organized as a result of making an effort to respond to the numerous acts of violence that the Long Island youth and residents have fallen victim to. Resolutions to address this ongoing critical issue have been limited.
Performances will include the legendary R&B group, The Force MDs ('Let Me Love You' 'Tears' 'Here I Go Again' 'Love is a House' 'Tender Love') , R&B crooner, Jeff Redd ('I Found Loving' 'You Called & Told Me') and MC/on-air personality, Chubb Rock ('Just the Two of Us' ' Treat 'Em Right'). Additional appearances and performances will be provided by local youth and youth-based organizations: the Order of the Feather Fraternity: Queens Chapter, The Aspiring Young Artists, Dylan Jenet Collins and Natia. The previously mentioned youth will have an opportunity to showcase their talents alongside seasoned professionals, as well as having a platform to present their opinions about the state of community affairs. Legendary hip hop pioneer, Larry 'Love' Moore will emcee the program with his engaging flair and captivating personality.
