NEW PANTHERS COHOST P.O.P. ‘DAILY PEOPLES CAMPAIGN’
AS PART OF NATL DAY OF ACTION III
CALLS FOR NATL UNITED FRONT AGAINST POLICE BRUTALITY

On Saturday, October 1st, the New Black Panther Party will co-host the Peoples Organization for Progress (POP) ‘Daily People’s Campaign’!
Participants will assemble at Broad and Market Streets, downtown Newark and rally until 2pm.
The rally will mark day 96 of The Daily People’s Campaign for Jobs, Peace, Justice and Equality!. The Campaign was launched on June 27th to dramatize the impact of draconian public policies on ordinary people. POP vows to host this daily action everyday for 381 days in honor of the epic Montgomery Bus Boycott that propelled a young Martin Luther King Jr. onto national consciousness. A ‘national jobs program’ is at the top of the list of the core issues driving the Daily Campaign.
This rally will spotlight the painfully cutting edge issue of police brutality. Currently, Newark’s Police Department is under investigation by the U.S. Justice Department as a consequence of the work of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the Peoples Organization for Progress and the New Black Panther Party.
The ACLU produced an exhaustingly detailed petition documenting hundreds of incidents of police brutality just within the past several years. POP and the Party have generating strong public protests on the issue consistently over the years.
The rally, following up on a similar rally calling for police accountability co-hosted just days ago by the ACLU, will put critical scrutiny on the Justice Department’s investigation. It will also be apart of the Party’s call for a national united front on this serious and burning issue.
“Just as the jobs crisis is a national one and is rightfully being addressed by this campaign, so is the bloody scourge of police brutality,” insisted Zayid Muhammad, the Party’s national minister of culture, who has been articulating this call for a united front for several years now.
The rally will also be a part of a 60 city network of actions called The National Day of Action III! The National Day of Action movement was conceived and organized by Attorney Malik Zulu Shabazz, chairman of the New Black Panther Party to get people organized who expressed interest in developing a Black Power Movement particular to the challenges of these times.
The National Day of Action III movement is also asking supporters to boycott all non black businesses on October 1st in memory of Troy Davis, the innocent man just legally lynched in Georgia on September 22nd with the full consent of the U.S. Supreme Court.
Later that afternoon, Attorney Shabazz will keynote the Day of Action Rally in Harlem detailing the Movement’s material aid project to Senegal, the movement’s Black Farmer’s Market and more!
That will take place at Salem United Methodist Church, 2190 Adam Clayton Powell Blvd. at 129th Street in Harlem, from 4-9pm.
