Sango Egbe invites community to ceremonial Bata drumming to close out 2012 year for Sango

Sheldon, S.C. [December 10, 2012]— Scheduled for December 17^th at 1:00pm the National Sango Egbe of Oyotunji African Village will host a community wide Bata Drum Ceremony for Sango at 1:00pm within the Sango Courtyard at Oyotunji African Village, 56 Bryant Lane, Sheldon S.C. 29941. The ceremony for Sango will proceed the Bablu Awon that is scheduled for 7:00pm that same evening. The Bata drumming for Sango is free of charge; however, participants are strongly encouraged to bring adimu and/or gifts to present to Sango. Beginning on December 17^th, the Kingdom of Oyotunji African Village will begin nearly two weeks of Obaluaiye veneration. Commencing with Oloya Oyabi’s, Ile Muiesan’s 9^th Annual Babaluaiye Awon and lasting until OAV’s New Year’s Eve Celebration on December 31^st; Oyotunji will open its doors to the community to propitiate the elder deity, Father of the World, Babaluaiye. The purpose of the Awon for Babaluaiye, scheduled for Monday, December 17^th, is to cleanse, heal, shed negativity, excessiveness and to revive and rejuvenate the community and its participants. Awon attendees are encouraged to arrive in Oyotunji African Village by 7:00pm. Also, on December 17^th at 1:00pm there will be the quarterly Bata Drumming for Sango. General public is encouraged to attend the Awon for an opportunity to cleanse themselves with a multiplicity of herbs, grains and livestock.
