NAT TURNER LIBRARY: SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA. – Young film maker/Entrepreneur, Clayton Wike, has been designated as the Official Videographer for NAT TURNER CONVENTION 2011. Mr. Wike became a member of the NTOC Planning Committee at its 3rd monthly Planning Conference, Saturday, November 27, 2010.

The NTOC is holding Monthly Planning conferences to convene NAT TURNER CONVENTION 2011, “as the center piece to launch a campaign to Correct, Preserve and Propagate Black History.” Said Founder/Curator of the Nat Turner Library, H. Khalif Khalifah.

“We will use the history of Nat Turner because his place in the history of Black people in America, maybe, the most documented of all physical acts, under the control of Black people, that led to free us all from Chattel Slavery.” Continued Khalifah.

Part of the documentation is in the hundreds of books about Nat Turner that can be both borrowed and purchased in the Nat Turner Library. The history has also been verbally recounted hundreds of times during “Nat Turner Trail tours” over the past 19-years: all staged from the Land of his birth at the Nat Turner Library, in Southampton County, VA.

THE PETIGREE OF CLAYTON JENKINS WIKE:

NATIVE NEW YORKER – FILM SCHOOL GRADUATE, TSA STINT

The expertise of full time film maker, Clayton Wike had an immediate impact, and inspiration on the last Planning Committee: The Founder of TNTL issued the call to Black America to come together to plan NAT TURNER CONVENTION 2011:

The some 50 who first responded are A group that is both diverse in age, region and gender: Dr. Perry Kyle (Texas), Ph.D, a full time history professor took on the role of representing the purpose and convening of the Convention in Texas; 22 years old Nadirah Uhuru Khalifah, a philosophy major at UNCC, N.C., Clinton Wike, retired former Office Manager for Congressman Major Owens (D-NYC), who now lives in Maryland.

The mass majority of respondents responded to the “Plenary Meeting” of October 30, 2010. Of them, eight returned for the business meeting on the evening of that day. Of the original 8, only 2 returned for the follow up meeting of last week. But 6 new people showed and the meeting picked up in commitment and temperament from the prior meeting.

Those in attendance heard Clayton Wike give a comprehensive plan to create promotion films leading up to the Convention. He has also agree to outline a plan to film and edit a full length Documentary Film by the weekend of the Convention, August 19-20-21, 2011.

The plans and strategic use of film to feed News Media with a steady diet of information about Nat Turner Convention 2011 was thoroughly discussed at the first meetings. The Agenda for follow-up was specified to “identify resources, and commitments to formulize,” the proposals. The designation of 32 years old Clayton Wike was readily accepted as the “temporary” coordinator for film documentation.

IDEALS & PROPOSALS DIE FOR LACK

OF FOLLOW UP &  FOLLOW THROUGH

Great proposals and ideals for the Liberation of Black people usually fall fallow because of the lack of follow up, or follow through. But with Khalifah as the Chairman of NTC2011, this will not be a problem, as his use of resources, human and otherwise, with the sincere ones in his presence is well know, if not legendary.

Individuals not wanting to, or unable to contribute to the enactment of useful ideals to liberate Black people learn to stay away from events he plans to, both “follow up and follow through.” But anything, that helps to move a project forward, regardless to stage of development is greatly appreciated.

 CLAYTON WIKE BORN

 IN BROOKLYN, NEW YORK CITY

Mr. Wike was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. He grew up in Washington, D.C., where he attended Film School at The Art Institute of Washington; there he learned Digital Filmmaking & Video Production. He also Directed and Produced his own Urban Television show called "Wike World."

Mr. Wike is CEO/Entrepreneur of Wike World Entertainment. He is presently producing professional videos for an array of local and national talents, as he has been doing for more the 10 years of operating the business.  After a ……. Stint as a federal TSA Officer he resigned to full fill his passion and vision to make movies.

Mr. Wike told a grateful NTPC that if given the raw footage of past Nat Turner Trail Tours he would convert them to DVD, then, come to The Land to take live, updated footage and edit them into film presentations.

Khalifah, who is also a Senior Tour Guide for The Nat Turner Trail, assured him he would have full access to the documentation that was recorded over the past two decades.

The footage was taken primarily during what is called “Black Literary Weekend.” The annual event, with notable exception, is presented by one Black America’s, largest and most important Publishers, UBUS Communications Systems. Some of Black America’s most important writers have been among the more that 500 writers cited for “Excellence in Black Liberation,” since 1991.

COMBINED RIDING AND WALKING TOUR

On the 3rd day of Black Literary Weekend, the Writers are given a guided tour of The Nat Turner Trail. It is estimated that about 3,000, including writers, have been given the tour by Khalifah & Co.  The 19th Black Book Awards for Excellence in Black Literature will be in June of 2011 – two months before NAT TURNER CONVENTION 2011.

The Nat Turner Trail tour is both riding a walking. Both bus loads, vans and cars have been used; with the single largest being on the 3rd Day of N’COBRA’S 9th Annual Reparations Convention, in 1998. That year, two buses and a caravan of cars were led from the Plenary site at Hampton University. The tour is a re-visit of the “battle sites” where the Nat Turner led BLA of 1831 successfully won 16 or 17 consecutive victories.

Contact information for the monthly planning conference, which are both telephone and on location at the Nat Turner Library, is available at www.natturnertrail.com or call 434-378-2140. You must call to RSVP and receive the call in telephone information.
