February 25th, the day that Mayor Chokwe Lumumba transitioned to the ancestors nearly a year ago is rapidly approaching. In honor of his memory the New Afrikan People’s Organization, Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, and Cooperation Jackson are hosting a Commemoration in his honor on Friday, February 27th and Saturday, February 28th.
The Commemoration is also a highlight of Mayor Lumumba’s continuing legacy. The Commemoration is serving as the grand launch of the Chokwe Lumumba Center for Economic Democracy and Development located at 939 W. Capitol Street, Jackson, MS 39203. The Lumumba Center is the home of Cooperation Jackson and the epicenter of our Sustainable Communities Initiative (SCI) (see http://www.cooperationjackson.org/sustainable-communities-initiative for more details).
The Commemoration is also serving as a fundraiser for Cooperation Jackson and the Lumumba Center. By supporting the Lumumba Center and Cooperation Jackson, we can support fulfilling a portion of Mayor Lumumba’s vision to create a vibrant cooperative community in Jackson. A strong cooperative community strengthens the advance of economic democracy and a just transition. You can donate online at http://www.cooperationjackson.org/donate2/. Checks and money orders can be made out to Cooperation Jackson and mailed to P.O. Box 1932 Jackson, MS 39215.
