Greetings, everyone. 

As I am sure you know, 12 Years a Slave is Solomon Northrup's autobiographical account of how he, a free Black man, was kidnapped and sold into slavery. 

But did you know that this was actually commonplace in the U.S. at that time?

In Soul Survivors, women narrate their own accounts of their experience of being enslaved. Many of the women whose stories form this collection were themselves, or were descended from, free Black people who were kidnapped and sold into slavery. Click here for my review of Soul Survivors.
