It's 10 years since Ms Serwah and I founded BTWSC and BritishBlackMusic.com/Black Music Congress. Sadly, will have a "soft" commemoration in 2012, and mark this milestone "properly" in 2013. Nevertheless this year's British Black Music Month (BBMM) launch at Westminster City Hall on Thursday May 31 2012, 6-8.30pm, is going to be special, hence the one month notice to make sure you book in good time.
If you can make it, then book now at: www.bbmbmc.eventbrite.com. It is a free event, so you are welcome to invite anyone you think may be interested.
We're keeping much of the BBMM2012 programme under wraps. But we can however reveal two events, which you can book for now: Talking Copyright: Is Copyright Fit For Purpose In An Age Of Free* Thursday June 21, 6.30-9pm @ a central London venue: http://bbmbmc2012copyright.eventbrite.com
Music Biz Empowerment Half-Day Courses Tuesday July 3 and 10, 10.15am-4.30pm @ a central London venue: http://bbmbmc2012courses.eventbrite.com

British Black Music Month (BBMM) 2012 launches on Thursday May 31 2012, 6.00pm-8.30pm in central London with a presentation and debate entitled British Black Music: How Far Have We Come? The debate will be preceded by the screening of a presentation by BMM/BMC founder Kwaku taking into context this year’s sub-themes - the 10th anniversary of BBM/BMC, Jamaica & Trinidad @ 50, Marcus Garvey @ 100 and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor @ 100, plus highlighting 10 years of BTWSC and BBM/BMC. In association with WSDG. Free: www.BBMBMC.eventbrite.com.
Institute of Commonwealth Studies, in conjunction with the Black & Asian Studies Association, present Black and Asian Britain seminars: African, Not Black History: Arguments for “African” on Tuesday May 29 2012, 6-7.30pm at Senate House (room tbc), University of London . “Black” in Britain used to be a “political colour of alliances”, but now whom does it represent? Should we not use “African”? Kwaku, a history consultant and community activist, will focus on the issue of African identity. Presentation is preceded by the screening of the short-ish version of ‘The African Or Black Question’ guerilla documentary and ends with a Q&A. Free: www.TAOBQ.eventbrite.com
