GOOD JOBS NOT GIVEAWAYS
Tax breaks are breaking the 99%
Corporate subsidies should not mean more money for millionaires
It's time to ask for our money back!
The bailout wasn’t the only time when the people’s money went directly to the pockets of rich private corporations. Hundreds of little-known city and state quasi-public, shadowy entities regularly award tax breaks and other goodies in exchange for job creation to those who don't need them: the developers of huge sports arenas, luxury condominium towers, financial institutions, and other corporations that often fail to deliver jobs –let alone good jobs.
TEACH-IN @ LIBERTY SQUARE, 12 NOON
After the teach-in, we’ll lead a short tour of Downtown Brooklyn’s publicly subsidized gentrification and end at a creative direct action at JPMorgan CHASE you won’t want to miss!
WALKING TOUR & RALLY TO DEMAND SUBSIDIES DELIVER GOOD JOBS @ DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN, 1:30PM
Meet up @ FUREE (81 Willoughby, Ste. 701, N/R, A/C/F to Jay St.-MetroTech). End up at Chase 3-4 MetroTech Center (Myrtle btwn Flatbush and Duffield).
Come see what publicly subsidized luxury development has done to the downtown Brooklyn community. We’ll end up at JPMorgan CHASE, which received a subsidy of $237,700,000 from New York’s main job creation program to move 5,000 employees to MetroTech in 1988 at a cost to the public of $51,000 per job. Since receiving the subsidy, Chase made one of the largest series of LAYOFFS in NYC history and has accepted tens of millions of more subsidies from New Jersey to move jobs out of NYC. Want your money back?
