Foundation Offer Families $ 20 to Every Low-Income Family that Opens A $ 5 Kids Saving Account at Back To School Kids Bank Day Event
Seeking 100 Low-Income Families To Save for their Children’s Financial Future

Chicago, IL (January 22, 2013- The Monroe Foundation, a 23year-old community advocacy organization, is joining with First Midwest Bank to offer $ 20 deposit contributions for 100 low-income families of children ages 1-17 to open kids savings or checking accounts on Saturday, August 17th, 10a.m. to 12p.m. at the AKArama Community Service Center, 6220 South Ingleside in Chicago’s Woodlawn community. A “BACK TO SCHOOL KIDS BANK DAY AND SCHOOL SUPPLY GIFT CARD GIVE AWAY” will be held at this event.

The Foundation, through the Community Reinvestment Organizing Project, has been leading a year-long campaign called, “EVERY CHILD NEEDS A SAVINGS ACCOUNT”, launched in February of this year that has already successfully placed 350 children and their families in savings accounts with participating financial institutions. The campaign has held “KIDS SAVINGS DAY” financial education and account opening events across the Chicago land since the launch, and First Midwest Bank will be the banking leader for the August 17thKIDS SAVINGS DAY” event.
Additionally, the Monroe Foundation is providing Back To School gift cards for supplies  and piggy-banks to the first 50 families that arrive at 10a.m. and open a $ 5 savings or student checking account with First Midwest Bank, sponsor of the event.

Our KIDS SAVING DAY campaign is a movement that encourages and provides a way for economically struggling families and students heading back to school or college, to become part of the financial services mainstream of society and minimize the attraction, lure and dependence on high-cost alternative financial services that lead to debt and economic insecurity, particularly in the African American community”, stated Otis C. Monroe, II,CEO of the Monroe Foundation. To sign-up families for the “BACK TO SCHOOL KIDS BANK DAY & SCHOOL SUPPLY GIFT CARD GIVE-A-AWAY, or  for more information about The Monroe Foundation, visit www.themonroefoundation.org or call 1-773-315-9720.
