On Wednesday, June 27th, the Daily People’s Protest Campaign for Jobs, Peace, Equality and Justice, an important initiative of the People’s Organization for Progress (POP), will mark its 1 year anniversary, its 365th consecutive day of protest, for a more humane social and economic policy orientation with a rally co-hosted by Veterans For Peace. The rally will take place the Lincoln Monument, Springfield Av. and West Market Street, Newark from 4:30-6pm. The Daily People’s Protest Campaign was launched on June 27, 2011, vowing to rally for 381 consecutive days in honor of the epic Montgomery Bus Boycott with surviving participants of that historic action by their side. With its bold core call for a national jobs program, an end to wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Pakistan, to preserve worker rights and the right to collective bargaining, for a moratorium on foreclosures, to oppose the privatization of public schools, for national health care and for affordable higher education, it began with several dozen endorsing organizations . Within several months, the number of co-sponsoring organizations grew to over 150! As this goes to press, there are now 179 co-sponsoring organizations! What began as a local action to dramatize the need for jobs has now become a national story with historic dimensions! The Campaign will conclude on Wednesday, July 11th, or its 381 consecutive day of protest with a special march and rally. Participants will assemble and rally at the Lincoln Monument at 4pm and will march at 5pm. “Our country is at a crossroads on national social policy,” said Lawrence Hamm, conceptualizer of the Daily Peoples Protest Campaign and founding POP chairman. “Will it go forward like it did with Reconstruction, the New Deal or the Civil Rights Movement or will it go backwards.” “If it goes forward , we believe that history will show that our Daily People’s Protest Campaign will have helped to shape the environment to make it so,” he finished. Veterans For Peace is gearing up for its national convention this Summer in Miami, and for a wide range of anti-war protests all over the country. This rally will spotlight their denouncing of drone secrecy programs where war is actually being waged unofficially and to resist calls for military actions in Syria and Iran.
