(BlackNews.com) -- If you've got an idea for a new product or service and have been thinking of starting your own business, then February 16, 2012 is a day you wish would come sooner than later. On that date, some 100 aspiring and existing small business owners will be part of a unique entrepreneurial experience - the MBE Venture Weekend(TM).

MBE Venture Weekend(TM) is a marathon event specifically designed to launch or re-launch business startups. It's an intense 53 hour program that challenges entrepreneurs to validate their ideas for innovative products and services, develop their business plan, and launch their business. There are no lectures or seminars to attend. Instead, entrepreneurs are treated to a rapid fire development process, a steady diet of briefings on key elements of the business plan, and a room full of resources. Entrepreneurs emerge from the process with a fine-tuned, defensible business strategy, keenly focused, and empowered to pursue their ideas. Attendees should expect a fast-paced, thought-provoking environment.

MBE Venture Weekend(TM), an offspring of the MBE Capital Call(TM) Conference and Venture Forum, was developed to help entrepreneurs and small business owners overcome their tendency to over-research their plans and ideas, or put them down. "Over the years, we've seen some phenomenal ideas by aspiring business owners," states James R Taylor, Executive Director of Virginia Housing and Community Development Corporation (VHCDC), the creator of MBE Venture Weekend(TM). "Unfortunately, we've also seen plenty of fatalities, the result of death-by-research, which occurs when the prospective owner literally researches their idea for months, if not years, searching for every possible factoid. Rather than employing lean startup methodologies to launch their venture, he or she spends considerable time thinking about the business. The net effect is that personal matters ultimately overtake their aspirations and their time is up. Then, they're afraid to venture out, their idea is no longer relevant, or their resources have dried up."

MBE Venture Weekend(TM) encourages idea sharing, collaboration, and team-work. Attendees are partnered with business experts, technical advisors, and college student interns to validate their ideas, define their market and competition, develop their business model and marketing strategy, construct an operating plan, develop their financial plans, and prepare a formal presentation on their venture. The action starts Thursday, February 16, 2012 at the Crowne Plaza Hampton Marina Hotel, in Hampton, Virginia. To attend, visit www.mbeventureweekend.com to get additional information and register.
