It remains unclear as to why Mr. Gerald Reed was rushed to Stateville Correctional Center hospital and subsequently transferred to St. Joseph hospital in Joliet, Illinois. Stateville Correctional Center staff have been very reluctant to speak on the issue. The mother of Reed was able to learn from prison officials that her sons medical issue is not serious, but they would not identify the illness for why he was transferred to a hospital outside the institution on Sunday. As soon as we have any information it will be released to you.

 

Stateville is a prison that is deteriorating and have been scrutinize for how it treat inmates. The conditions are inhumane, many inmates are placed in segregation for minor prison infractions. The stress level, poor dieting, and lack of physical exercise contributes to a high rate of medical problems.
