COALITION OF GRASSROOTS AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY GROUPS MOBILIZE "RESPECT US" ON COUNTRY FINANCIAL A coalition of African American grassroots community-based organizations, organized by the Community Reinvestment Organizing Project of the Monroe Foundation (COP), are planning a press conference and a "RESPECT US" protest to bring awareness at the lack of respect COUNTRY Financial in how the company communicates grant-making decisions to community-based organizations that have participated in community dialogues with COUNTRY Financial. In a statement, Otis C. Monroe, III, CEO of the Monroe Foundation, stated, "We have asked for a meeting with the local manager for the COUNTRY Financial in Chicago and the president of the company, Kurt Block, to understanding directly from its' corporate leadership, that if COUNTRY is invested in the communities it markets in, then how does a company meet with African American community organizations with long and demonstrated track records of improving the economic security of low-income families, and deny any support to all of them, and disrespect these groups in its' manner of communicating its denial of support". Details about the press conference and protest mobilization may be obtained by contacting: Otis Monroe, the Monroe Foundation, (773) 315-9720 |
