CHICAGO CONGRESSMAN DANNY K. DAVIS HAS ENDORSED KENNY JOHNSON

CHICAGO, IL (January 19, 2012) - Chicago Congressman Danny K. Davis has endorsed Kenny Johnson for State Representative in the 26th District of Illinois.

Kenny Johnson will make an outstanding State Representative, Davis stated. Kennys experience as a small business owner and father, coupled with his record of commitment to public service, will allow him to go down to Springfield and work with his peers to advocate for the best interests of the 26th District.

As Congressman, Danny K. Davis has represented the Chicago-area 7th Congressional District of Illinois since 1996. Davis represents nearly half of the 26th State Representative Districts voters.

Congressman Davis serves on the Committee on Oversight & Government Reform and the Committee on Homeland Security. Davis is a member of the Black Caucus, the Progressive Caucus and co-chair of the Community Health Center Caucus.

Congressman Davis has a long and distinguished record as an outstanding public servant who understands what it takes to represent a vibrant and diverse district, Johnson said. I am proud to have Congressman Davis full support and confidence.

The 26th District seat is currently held by State Rep. Kim DuBuclet, who was appointed this past spring to replace State Rep. Will Burns, now 4th Ward Alderman. DuBuclet is not seeking reelection. In a poll by Communication Concepts, Kenny Johnson held a three to one lead over his opponent in the race to replace DuBuclet.

Johnson lives in the South Loop neighborhood with his wife, Yolandra, and their six year old son. He received a B.A. in Sociology with a minor in African-American Studies from the University of Virginia.

The new 26th District runs along the Chicago lakefront, from the Gold Coast south to 43rd Street, and continues south through portions of Kenwood, Washington Park, Woodlawn, and the South Shore and South Chicago neighborhoods.
