PERCEPTION/REALITY (In the Age of Deception)

Blanc Gallery New Exhibit Starts October 10th by Artist Raymond A Thomas

New Works by Raymond A. Thomas

On October 9, 2014 Chicago Artist Raymond A. Thomas launches his newest most important body of work at Blanc Gallery during Chicago Artist’s month. Perception/Reality (in the Age of Deception) investigates the notions of visual and sensory manipulation and how this current multi-media bombardment of subversion connects historically to an ongoing campaign of conformity and control. The artist uses varying media to mirror the layered effects of multi-media manipulation on our psyches. His work reflects how the hideous and the sublime coexist as we grapple with them, trying to rationalize our world through minefields of distorted truths.

In the tragic wake of events in Ferguson, MO Thomas’ works aims to inspire viewers to create their own stories to counter-balance the media’s narrative arc. His alternately beautiful and brutal images challenge viewers to become the creators of their own images and truths.

Raymond A. Thomas is an award-winning artist, international award-winning filmmaker, and noted creative director. He won best of show 1st prize at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry’s 2013 Black Creativity juried art exhibition and is the recipient of a 2014 IPA grant from the City of Chicago’s department of cultural affairs. Thomas, a graduate of the prestigious School of the Art Institute of Chicago was hired by Johnson Publishing Company Inc., publishers of Ebony and Jet Magazines where served as art director and creative manager for over 23-years.

Blanc is a fine art gallery in historic Bronzeville that seeks to provide a space for artists to explore new ideas and for the community to engage these artists in a culture of conversation.
