THE FOUNDER OF THE EMPOWERMENT EXPERIMENT RETURNS HOME TO ONE OF THE POOREST CITIES IN AMERICA TO SPREAD HOPE AND THE GOSPEL OF ECONOMIC RENEWAL
Maggie Anderson, CEO of The Empowerment Experiment
~ If there was ever a time for the message of self-empowerment and economic renewal, it's now. As John and Maggie Anderson embarked on a self-empowerment economic experiment in 2009, when they bought Black for a whole year they captured the imagination of many. A few years later, Maggie Anderson, now CEO of The Empowerment Experiment, tours the country sharing the many lessons, reeducating black consumers to the power they have to retain wealth, and challenging our understanding of probably the most unknown and misunderstood institution in the black community - the Black business.
For urban communities like Liberty City Miami, it seems like things keep going from bad to worse. As the rest of the country struggles on with the lasting impact of an unrelenting recession, some places like this have had it rough for years before the recession and are now experiencing a slow, gruesome and tormented state of economic crisis. Nobody understands this better than Maggie Anderson because she was born and raised there.
After touring the countries' major African American communities Maggie returns home to one of the poorest cities in America to a heroine's welcome thanks to Mr. Aunkh Aakhu, a guerilla marketing consultant specializing in Black businesses.
Mr. Aakhu contacted Mrs. Anderson as soon as he learned where she was from because he could see that her message was perhaps even more relevant in her place of birth. "She is local hero who has made good on her promise to not forget where she comes from and to be like Harriet Tubman and come back for the rest of us, and that why we love the work she doing across the country," he noted.
The plan is for Mrs. Anderson to come home end of November at the beginning of holiday spending as a part of a Buy Black holiday campaign that would bring awareness to consumers and connect them with positive Black business that deserve to be supported. "The best gift we could give ourselves in 2012 is to know we retained some of our wealth in our community while celebrating the holidays. Maybe thanks to self-empowerment economics, some of our local black business could start the new year on an upbeat note," says Mr. Aakhu.
He and his company BetterMarketingMastery.com have partnered with local organizations including NANA, Florida Memorial University, Old Dillard Museum, AARLC, A Better Education Place, Star Team Marketing, Urban America Newspaper and others to create a series of events that highlight the homecoming of the local hero. The greater purpose is to rejuvenate and reeducate black business owners while inspiring local consumers to value their spending and keeping wealth within the community to help to address issues of joblessness, and the general pessimism brought on by the recession. The Schedule of Events features two speaking engagements and a book signing Nov 28 and 29. For more info, visit http://bit.ly/VDCgwC
