The National Black Business Month concept was created by Frederick E. Jordan and William Templeton of San Francisco, California. The Collaborative Partners will present their respective directions to promote and support businesses targeting their markets in Chicagoland. Revin Fellows, co founder of National Black Agenda Consortium and organizer of the gathering of collaborative partners said he is excited to take part of this campaign and celebrate black business month by highlighting their need as well as supporting black owned business. “We’d like to open up the need to our supporters, with hopes of motivating and inspiriting our black business owners. Most importantly, the purpose of August campaign is to support the businesses, so we would encourage everyone to be present and patronize one or two businesses.” Said Fellows.
This initiative is highlighting marking the 400 year of slavery, and seeks local government officials, community leaders, and venture capitalists to focus efforts on creating a more hospitable environment in which black-owned businesses can grow. This includes the recent opening of a Black Grocery store Kingston Market in Maywood and Gas Station in Citgo Gibsons Quik Mart, 15221 Halsted St, Harvey, IL 60426
Recognition of National Black Business Month has been inconsistent, and it is still a work in progress. During the 31 days of August, Jordan and Templeton reason that dedicating a month to black business best draws attention to their cause. They chose August after their research revealed it was the month in which most black family and social events occur. They also believe that increasing elected officials’ awareness of black business, at least one month a year, may help to yield economic policies that would be more favorable to African American entrepreneurs.
Ron Carter, Chair Black Wall Street Chicago said Economically, the African American communities across the nations are way behind other ethnic counterparts. Supporting black business is the best way to lower crime, the high rate of African American unemployment.

Mark Allen, Chairman Of National Black Wall Street Chicago said he is pleased to see a united front of local, state and national Black Wall Street leaders and other Black economic advocates uniting to help kick-off Black Business Month activites in the Chicago. "And its also great symbolically to kick off on 79th Street which is anchoring so much renewed Black community growth from the works of Ro Davis and The BopBiz Center on 79th Street.
