"Coon Meeting" was a phrase that Rev. Al Sharpton coined for a meeting between leading Blacks, Black selected officials and the mayor of New York City in December 1986.  It is called when there is a problem in the slave quarters.  In December 1986, Michael Griffith was the victim of a racially-motivated murder in Howard Beach, NY.

The head of the white mob was a law enforcement agent and he would get away scot-free.  My problem really arose when I publicly fingered him.  Poor and undistinguished whites took the dive, however.  Given the pressure, New York had to look for unorganized whites.  The culprit's  father was a sargent with the New York Police Department.  I demanded a special prosecutor and criminal convictions.
A real special prosecutor should be appointed in every case involving a law enforcement agent.  History would repeat itself  a year later in Dutchess County.  A fifteen-year-old  Tawana Brawley had been repeatedly raped by law enforcement agents between November 24-28, 1987.  I fingered an assistant district attorney. His father was a judge.  New York sicced the bloodhounds on me.  I was representing an unorganized community.
In New York, it is still illegal for a Black person including a Black attorney to accuse a white person of murder or rape.  Leading Blacks and Black selected officials assembled at City Hall with Mayor Ed Koch to chastise me for getting out of my place.  They would inform Mayor Koch that, according to them, I had no credibility in the Black community.
Earlier in the day, Rev. Sharpton was the last person to speak at a press conference involving leading activists.  During the press conference, every activist had forgotten to chastise Mayor Koch or leading Blacks for holding a meeting later that day at City Hall.  When Rev. Sharpton spoke he referred to it as a "coon meeting".  This reference gave me a new lease on life.  In the presence of Mayor Koch, leading Blacks became sheepish when he introduced them to the media.
Of course, Rev. Sharpton had gotten a head start on me.  He would search for his name daily in all newspapers.  He had read an article that I would not see for at least another two years.  It was an op-ed piece by Prof. Jim Sleeper who is now at Yale University.  He warned whites that Rev. Sharpton would have to be treated differently if I put him under my wings.  I did not know Rev. Sharpton until Howard Beach.
What a difference a day makes.  On Monday, Rev. Sharpton will be hosting a "coon meeting" in Washington, DC under the pretext of fashioning a Black agenda.  There is a common thread.  All of the convenors are "white folks' n-----s"  They  head organizations that were built by white racists  to sustain white supremacy.
Everyone should know the history of the NAACP and the National Urban League but very few people know the history and mission of the National Action Network.  It was founded in 1991 by the Rockefeller family.  Among the midwives were Dr. Wyatt Tee Walker, Rev. Jesse Jackson and Rev. Herbert Daughtry.  Today, the major financier is the Madison Avenue Initiative.
Special interest groups steer this nation's destiny.  Blacks have no special interest groups to protect them.  Leading Blacks are meeting in the nation's capital this Monday to find a way to keep Blacks strapped in strait jackets. Somebody has to go over the "fiscal cliff".  President Barack Obama has already designated Blacks.  It is not personal. This was the plight of Joe Louis.
Malcolm X said something that Blacks can only parrot. They fail to understand its meaning.  "Of all the disciplines, history is best qualified to reward our research".  The operative word is "research".  Our revered ancestors have already given us answers to our problems.  We refuse to do the research.
Rev Sharpton claims that we must fashion a Black agenda.  Cong. Adam Clayton Powell Jr. did it during the 1960's.   His "17 Point Plan" is as relevant today as the "Mis-education of the Negro" by Dr. Carter G. Woodson.  It can be found in the Congressional Record.  Coons will have a difficult time reading it, however.  It will never see the light of day on Monday in the nation's capital.
Hon. Elijah Muhammad said that Cong. Powell was the only legislator who could receive his vote.  Today, he might add Cong. Gus Savage and Cong. Cynthia McKinney to his honor roll.  Knowing the history of the Rockefeller family, Blacks would be "nuts" to pursue Rev. Sharpton's Black agenda. He is toxic.  Citations of authorities will be presented at the Elks Plaza in Brooklyn on December 5, 2012.
