1. Economic Conference in Costa Rica:  The nation of Costa Rica is embarking on a billion dollar + development on its Caribbean coast.  This side of the nation is where the majority of the Black population resides.  The opportunities for infrastructure, distribution, etc. are immense and they want us to consider doing business there.  There is an upcoming conference during August 27 – September 1, 2014.  Please join us and let’s take Costa Rica by storm.  Please note the itinerary.  If you have any questions please contact Ryan Downey at rdowney@nationalbcc.org.   We haven’t been to Costa Rica since 2005 which was a very memorable trip.

2.  Comcast Essentials:  Our partner, Comcast, is extending its Essentials program.  This includes amnesty on past due accounts and up to six months free usage in underserved areas.  We applaud them for this noble outreach.

3.  Shame on the Department of Education:  This federal agency is up to its efforts to push the dangerous Gainful Employment Rule down the throats of private for profit schools.  Here is an Op-Ed Harry C. Alford wrote in The Hill (Capitol Hill newspaper).

4.  Kudos in New Orleans:  Anicka Marshall has just won the prestigious 2014 Millennial Award which is given out to outstanding individuals in the greater New Orleans area.  She and her sister operate a construction company and are members of our River Region Multicultural Chamber of Commerce (O.J. Breech, CEO).

5.  Pan African Chamber of Commerce and Industry:  The signing of the MOU with this organization is reported in its newsletter.  We are beginning to work the agreement by building a strategic plan for the West African nation of Benin.  An official Trade Mission will be set soon.

6.  Africa Comes to DC:  Beginning with last Saturday the nation’s capital is dressed and swaggering with the flair of Africa. The first ever US – Africa Summit is in full swing. The formal meetings, evening events and one on one discussions between American and African entrepreneurs are intensive.  We are so proud that this is happening.  It is historical!!!

  • Thanks so much for posting this information.

I have concerns about the "development" plans in Costa Rica.  What will be the impact on the environment?  In Jamaica, a lot of natural resources were ruined or squandered by the hotels and tourism industry.  This has impacted on jobs, local businesses and workplace safety.  Check out my blog:  Modern-Day Slavery: Jamaica for Sale
