THE SABBATH MESSAGE FOR JUNE 17, 2023

Shalom to All Who Seek the CREATOR GOD of Israel and HIS TRUTH

YAH, THE CREATOR, IS MY GOD AND MY ONLY SAVIOR!

<><> PART ONE <><>

EVERY NATION INVENTED

ITS OWN DEITY

Howbeit every nation made gods of their own,

and put them in the houses of the high places

which the Samaritans had made,

every nation in their cities wherein they dwelt.

II Kings 17:29

O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth.

Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people.

For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised:

he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols:

but the LORD made the heavens.

Psalm 96:1 – 5

The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD's:

but the earth hath he given to the children of men.

Psalm 115:15

Thus shall ye say unto them, The gods that have not made the heavens

and the earth, even they shall perish from the earth,

and from under these heavens.

Jeremiah 10:11

Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens,

and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth,

and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it,

and spirit to them that walk therein: I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee,

and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;

Isaiah 42:5,6

Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled:

who among them can declare this, and shew us former things?

let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified:

or let them hear, and say, It is truth.

Isaiah 43:9

We know that many, many deities exist and in a variety of forms,

but which one is the True and Living GOD?

When we look back in history at the religions of men after CREATION, we learn that mankind was never satisfied with the CREATOR that formed the Heavens and the Earth.  This was most unfortunate, and the reason is that had the People GOD formed kept HIS WAYS of Righteousness, there never would have been a FLOOD to destroy all the wicked.

GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.   Genesis 6:5 – 7

There are many events to prove the existence of a SUPREME BEING if we will only take the time to contemplate the episodes and dealings throughout history where the CREATOR GOD and/or deities exist.  Then when we weigh the past up against GOD’s WORDS, we can learn the real truth of the matter - wherein is a plethora of evidences that can make us know that we have been duped to believe in a false god.

The Heavens and the Earth and all things therein stand Witness to the WORKS of a definitively SUPREME CREATOR GOD.  There has only been ONE of this kind.  Though there are an endless number of man-made gods, albeit, none – not even one has fashioned a Heaven and Earth or the likes of human beings or any of the CREATOR GOD’s performances that manifest life of all kinds on Earth.  Thus, the question, how can that which was created be like the CREATOR?  Make that make sense to me.

“The LORD shall increase you more and more, you and your children. Ye are blessed of the LORD which made heaven and earth. The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD's: but the earth hath he given to the children of men. The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence. But we will bless the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. Praise the LORD.   Psalm 115:14 - 18

This FLOOD and the destruction of the wicked and of all living except Noah and his household are perfect examples for learning about the CREATOR GOD and what HE requires of us (Deut. 10:12), as well as the fact that there is NONE OTHER like unto HIM.  People have no real understanding regarding just how much the CREATOR hates wickedness and false worship, i.e., the worship of other gods.  However, if we consider all this death and destruction that has ensued since the FLOOD, we might be able to make the connection that mankind is again following wickedness and is on the wrong track.

As we focus on the CREATOR, let’s contemplate the fact that after the FLOOD, People still would not Fear GOD and Walk with HIM, as did Noah (Genesis 6:9).  They still turned to wickedness and would not Obey their MAKER to keep HIS Charge, Commandments, Statutes, and Laws.  And they established their own gods causing the CREATOR to choose for HIMSELF a Special People:  Abraham, Isaac, Jacob-Israel, and their SEED.  GOD clearly identifies with these Black Hebrews and the Land of Canaan that HE gave to them, for they are Witnesses to HIS CREATION, POWER, and WORKS!  Unto this day, GOD’s Land of Israel and HIS Holy City Jerusalem that HE also Chose for HIS Holy Name still stand representing HIM.  No other god can be associated with any of HIS CREATIONS and ESTABLISHMENTS – and yes, that, too, has to do with HIS being a JEALOUS GOD and wanting “ALL the GLORY”!

“To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him? The workman melteth a graven image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it over with gold, and casteth silver chains. He that is so impoverished that he hath no oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh unto him a cunning workman to prepare a graven image, that shall not be moved. Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth? It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:   Isaiah 40:18 – 22

“That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity. Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble. To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.   Isiah 40:23 – 26

Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: who among them can declare this, and shew us former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified: or let them hear, and say, It is truth. Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour. I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, that I am God.”   Isaiah 43: 9 - 12

As we ponder GOD’s CREATION and HIS WORDS, we can see that there is no other entity, god, idol, or image that has produced another Universe that we know of.  And yet we are certainly aware of the many idols, images, and imaginary gods and religions that man has founded and formed for his worship in his efforts to worship another god – any god – but the CREATOR!

“Idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not: They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not: They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat. They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them. O Israel, trust thou in the LORD: he is their help and their shield.”   Psalm 115:4 - 9

Let’s look at the history of World Empires and their gods.  We already know that these deities existed, but that which we do not know is that none, not even JC, are on the scale and ranking of the MOST HIGH CREATOR GOD!

EGYPT’S KING PHARAOH WAS FIRST TO LEARN ABOUT THE ONE TRUE GOD AND CREATOR

King Pharaoh learned about the CREATOR GOD at a great cost that there is but ONE GOD:

ELEVEN (11) EGYPTIAN GODS AND GODDESSES

Written and fact-checked by

The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica

Egypt had one of the largest and most complex pantheons of gods of any civilization in the ancient world. Over the course of Egyptian history hundreds of gods and goddesses were worshipped. The characteristics of individual gods could be hard to pin down. Most had a principle association (for example, with the sun or the underworld) and form. But these could change over time as gods rose and fell in importance and evolved in ways that corresponded to developments in Egyptian society. Here are a few of the most important deities to know.

Osiris

Osiris, one of Egypt’s most important deities, was god of the underworld. He also symbolized death, resurrection, and the cycle of Nile floods that Egypt relied on for agricultural fertility.

According to the myth, Osiris was a king of Egypt who was murdered and dismembered by his brother Seth. His wife, Isis, reassembled his body and resurrected him, allowing them to conceive a son, the god Horus. He was represented as a mummified king, wearing wrappings that left only the green skin of his hands and face exposed.

Isis

The origins of Isis are obscure. Unlike many gods, she can’t be tied to a specific town, and there are no certain mentions of her in the earliest Egyptian literature. Over time she grew in importance, though, eventually becoming the most important goddess in the pantheon. As the devoted wife who resurrected Osiris after his murder and raised their son, Horus, Isis embodied the traditional Egyptian virtues of a wife and mother.

As the wife of the god of the underworld, Isis was also one of the main deities concerned with rites for the dead. Along with her sister Nephthys, Isis acted as a divine mourner, and her maternal care was often depicted as extending to the dead in the underworld.

Isis was one of the last of the ancient Egyptian gods to still be worshipped. In the Greco-Roman period she was identified with the Greek goddess Aphrodite and her cult spread as far west as Great Britain and as far east as Afghanistan. It is believed that depictions of Isis with the infant Horus influenced Christian imagery of Mary with the infant Jesus.

Horus

Depicted as a falcon or as a man with a falcon’s head, Horus was a sky god associated with war and hunting. He was also the embodiment of the divine kingship, and in some eras the reigning king was considered to be a manifestation of Horus.

According to the Osiris myth, Horus was the son of Isis and Osiris, magically conceived after the murder of Osiris by his brother Seth. Horus was raised to avenge his father’s murder. One tradition holds that Horus lost his left eye fighting with Seth, but his eye was magically healed by the god Thoth. Because the right and left eyes of Horus were associated, respectively, with the sun and the moon, the loss and restoration of Horus’s left eye gave a mythical explanation for the phases of the moon.

Seth

Seth was the god of chaos, violence, deserts, and storms. In the Osiris myth, he isthe murderer of Osiris (in some versions of the myth, he tricks Osiris into laying down in a coffin and then seals it shut.)

Seth’s appearance poses a problem for Egyptologists. He is often depicted as an animal or as a human with the head of an animal. But they can’t figure out what animal he’s supposed to be. He usually has a long snout and long ears that are squared at the tips. In his fully animal form, he has a thin doglike body and a straight tail with a tuft on the end. Many scholars now believe that no such animal ever existed and that the Seth animal is some sort of mythical composite.

Ptah

Courtesy of the trustees of the British Museum

Ptah was the head of a triad of gods worshipped at Memphis. The other two members of the triad were Ptah’s wife, the lion-headed goddess Sekhmet, and the god Nefertem, who may have been the couple’s son.

Ptah’s original association seems to have been with craftsmen and builders. The 4th-dynasty architect Imhotep was deified after his death as a son of Ptah.

Scholars have suggested that the Greek word Aiguptos—the source of the name Egypt—may have started as a corruption of Hwt-Ka-Ptah, the name of one of Ptah’s shrines.

Re

One of several deities associated with the sun, the god Re was usually represented with a human body and the head of a hawk. It was believed that he sailed across the sky in a boat each day and then made a passage through the underworld each night, during which he would have to defeat the snake god Apopis in order to rise again.

Re’s cult was centered in Heliopolis, now a suburb of Cairo. Over time, Re came to be syncretized with other sun deities, especially Amon.

Hathor

The goddess Hathor was usually depicted as a cow, as a woman with the head of a cow, or as a woman with cow’s ears. Hathor embodied motherhood and fertility, and it was believed that she protected women in childbirth. She also had an important funerary aspect, being known as “the lady of the west.” (Tombs were generally built on the west bank of the Nile.) In some traditions, she would welcome the setting sun every night; living people hoped to be welcomed into the afterlife in the same way.

Anubis

Egyptian Book of the Dead: Anubis

Anubis was concerned with funerary practices and the care of the dead. He was usually represented as a jackal or as a man with the head of a jackal. The association of jackals with death and funerals likely arose because Egyptians would have observed jackals scavenging around cemeteries.

In the Old Kingdom (c. 2575–2130 BCE), before Osiris rose to prominence as the lord of the underworld, Anubis was considered the principal god of the dead. According to the Osiris myth, Anubis embalmed and wrapped the body of the murdered king, becoming the patron god for embalmers.

Thoth

Thoth, the god of writing and wisdom, could be depicted in the form of a baboon or a sacred ibis or as a man with the head of an ibis. He was believed to have invented language and the hieroglyphic script and to serve as a scribe and adviser for the gods. As the god of wisdom, Thoth was said to possess knowledge of magic and secrets unavailable to the other gods.

In underworld scenes showing the judgment undergone by the deceased after their deaths, Thoth is depicted as weighing the hearts of the deceased and reporting the verdict to Osiris, the god of the dead.

Bastet

In her earliest forms, the cat goddess Bastet was represented as a woman with the head of a lion or a wild cat. She took the less ferocious form of a domestic cat in the first millennium BCE.

In later periods she was often represented as a regal-looking seated cat, sometimes wearing rings in her ears or nose. In the Ptolemaic period she came to be associated with the Greek goddess Artemis, the divine hunter and goddess of the moon.

Amon

Amon

Before rising to national importance in the New Kingdom (c. 1539–1292 BCE), the god Amon was worshipped locally in the southern city of Thebes. Amon was a god of the air, and the name probably means the “Hidden One.” He was usually represented as a man wearing a crown with two vertical plumes. His animal symbols were the ram and the goose.

After the rulers of Thebes rebelled against a dynasty of foreign rulers known as the Hyksos and reestablished native Egyptian rule throughout Egypt, Amon received credit for their victory. In a form merged with the sun god Re, he became the most powerful deity in Egypt, a position he retained for most of the New Kingdom.

Today the massive temple complex devoted to Amon-Re at Karnak is one of the most visited monuments in Egypt.

PHOENICIAN RELIGION

by Mark Cartwright
published on 04 April 2016

The Phoenician Religion, as in many other ancient cultures, was an inseparable part of everyday life. Gods such as BaalAstarte, and Melqart had temples built in their name, offerings and sacrifices were regularly made to them, royalty performed as their high priests, and even ships carried their representations. Influenced by their predecessors and neighbours, the Phoenicians would spread their beliefs around the Mediterranean wherever they traded and established colonies, and their religion would continue to evolve and be perpetuated by their greatest colony of all, Carthage.

BABYLONIAN GODS

Babylonia mainly focused on the god Marduk, who is the national god of the Babylonian empire. However, there were also other gods that were worshipped. These are the seven deities:

Enlil

Enki

Inanna

Nabu

Nanna-Suen

Ninhursag

Utu

At various times, a single god in Babylonian cities was assigned a primary "special duty" for each city, such as being "the god of earth and the air" or "the god of the sky", and seen as the god with the most influence in that city by far.[4]

Marduk

Marduk, in Mesopotamian religion, the chief god of the city of Babylon and the national god of Babylonia; as such, he was eventually called simply Bel, or Lord.

Originally, he seems to have been a god of thunderstorms. A poem, known as Enuma elish and dating from the reign of Nebuchadrezzar I (1119–1098 BCE), relates Marduk’s rise to such preeminence that he was the god of 50 names, each one that of a deity or of a divine attribute. After conquering the monster of primeval chaosTiamat, he became Lord of the Gods of Heaven and Earth. All nature, including humanity, owed its existence to him; the destiny of kingdoms and subjects was in his hands.

Marduk’s chief temples at Babylon were the Esagila and the Etemenanki, a ziggurat with a shrine of Marduk on the top. In the Esagila the poem Enuma elish was recited every year at the New Year festival. The goddess named most often as the consort of Marduk was Zarpanitu.

Marduk’s star was Jupiter, and his sacred animals were horses, dogs, and especially the so-called dragon with forked tongue, representations of which adorn his city’s walls. On the oldest monuments Marduk is represented holding a triangular spade or hoe, interpreted as an emblem of fertility and vegetation. He is also pictured walking or in his war chariot. Typically, his tunic is adorned with stars; in his hand is a sceptre, and he carries a bow, spear, net, or thunderbolt. Kings of Assyria and Persia also honoured Marduk and Zarpanitu in inscriptions and rebuilt many of their temples.

Marduk was later known as Bel, a name derived from the Semitic word baal, or “lord.” Bel had all the attributes of Marduk, and his status and cult were much the same. Bel, however, gradually came to be thought of as the god of order and destiny. In Greek writings references to Bel indicate this Babylonian deity and not the Syrian god of Palmyra of the same name.

And the LORD thy God will make thee plenteous in every work of thine hand,

What one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like Israel,

whom God went to redeem for a people to himself, and to make him a name,

and to do for you great things and terrible, for thy land, before thy people,

which thou redeemedst to thee from Egypt, from the nations and their gods?

For thou hast confirmed to thyself thy people Israel to be a people unto thee

And let thy name be magnified for ever, saying,

The LORD of hosts is the God over Israel:

and let the house of thy servant David be established before thee.
