BRIAN SMALL - DIRECTOR OF TEAM TRAVEL - NY METS

Brian Small has been the Director of Team Travel for the New York Mets professional baseball team for about 7 years. His love of baseball goes way back to his childhood and being able to work in baseball as an adult has been a dream come true.

Brian graduated from Stanford University in 3 years’ time with a degree in Quantitative Economics. His professional journey into the baseball industry began shortly thereafter as a Public Relations Director for the American League office. After one year there, he was recruited by the Milwaukee Brewers for the newly created position of Director of Baseball Administration, which is where he stayed for a number of years  before returning to the American League office as the Director of Waivers and Player Records. In the latter two positions, his responsibilities included salary arbitration preparation, Spring Training accommodations for minor league teams, as well as overseeing the administration of player transactions, contracts, and the major league rules.

Brian became the Manager of Waivers and Player Records for the entire Major League Baseball organization after the League offices were consolidated in 2000. He served nearly 20 years combined at the major league executive level for the Milwaukee Brewers and at the Major League Baseball Commissioner’s office before joining the NY Mets front office team in 2011.

Listen to Brian share his experiences as an executive management professional in the sports industry, the importance of education for "training your mind" as compared to learning in the real world, the need to be confident and a go-getter when seeking opportunities within baseball operations, how baseball's billion dollar revenue is earned (licensing, television/network/Internet rights, etc.), the weight "winning" carries, and so much more. Brian can be contacted at his email address beesonthenet@aol.com and/or connect with him through LinkedIn.
