TRIBUTE TO A GREAT MAN
As I looked for a way to pay Tribute to Dr. Obadele, and express my love, admiration and respect for the man and his work, the words that Attorney Chokwe Lumumba spoke at the pre-sentencing of one of our most dynamic, functional and effective, but now incarcerated Freedom fighters, Mutula Shakur rang out in my mind: “We have been here before,” opened Brother Chokwe.
“We first stood before your jurisdiction as chattel property that you were not bound to respect. And did not respect” end of quote…
Today we stand in UTMOST RESPECT AND HONOR, as Dr. Imari Obadele join our ancestors…and we say, as Brother Chokwe Lumumba said to the white supremacist dog, in that courtroom in August of 1988: and I quote Chokwe again, “his memory will not go away. Others will take his seat, and when they get to know him, will glad to sit there.
“We will teach our children. This will ensure a future resistance. If it is anything like we perceive, this government is in trouble.” Ended Chokwe Lumumba. And ends my Tribute to Dr. Imari Abubakari Obadele.
However, as an aside to our surviving Freedom Fighters; as we have done with other Fallen heroes, and sheroes, we collect our dead and wounded, we honor their service to our Noble struggle; we then return to our positions, redouble commitments, more determined, more sure of the righteousness of our Cause…AND WE ARE MORE CONVINCED than ever, that decisions we made to stay the course that cause us to live life styles in contradiction to White Supremacy systems - subjecting us to the vilest form of ridicule from family, friends and foe ALIKE is the healthiest way to live on planet earth.
Give me time to read my commitment and I will be done. It is what I learned, more than anything else, from Dr. Obadele…..
PLEDGE TO THE CAUSE
If I never see another sun
If it never rise again
If the day of celebration of black liberation never begin
If my state of being today never end
With good as my shield I shall never give in
