On Monday, May 31st, Jean Reynolds-Turner, one of the founding members of the Malcolm X Commemoration Committee, will be memorialized by her family, comrades and friends.
This memorial will be held at The Shabazz Center, 3940 Broadway, from 2-6pm.
Sister Jean, as she was affectionately known, passed away several weeks ago in North Carolina. She was one of Malcolm’s most loyal followers. She was one of the few women to leave the Nation Of Islam with Malcolm and join both of his successive organizations, Muslim Mosque Inc. and the Organization of AfroAmerican Unity. She was with her leader and her minister right until the end on that fateful day, February 21, 1965, when he was assassinated. A lifelong Harlem resident, she relocated several years ago to North Carolina.
“Little is written about the women who dared to stand with Malcolm, and they are an incredible mix. None came more brave and more loving than our beloved Queen mother Jean Reynolds,” said Zayid Muhammad, the Committee’s press officer.
