By Alton H. Maddox, Jr.

When Dr. Calvin O. Butts of Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem said that it was "a go," I told him that I had never heard sweeter words spoken by anyone. The custodial release of Leola's body, "from prison," has not happened yet. Even though I have retained an attorney, she may need the "attorney-at-war" and "Black voices" to help her finally produce the body.

Leola Maddox has been a "political prisoner" since our return from Princeville, NC. We had been on a "humanitarian relief effort." After we took the grievances of the people of Princeville, NC, to the nation's capital, members of the Congressional Black Caucus served notice that our group had come to the nation's capital to embarrass them in front of white people. A bill of attainder was enacted.

In 1988, Leola Maddox became a "lifesaver" for Rev. Al Sharpton. On January 20, 1988, the headline in Newsday read: "The Minister And the Feds." Everyone took one side. In the middle was Leola W. Maddox. Everyone knew that she had taken the Minister’s side. If it had not been for Leola, a "political maverick," would have, instead, become "the walking dead."

After Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York releases her body he must discontinue designating her husband as a "debarred attorney" thereby defaming him; lift restrictions on his right to travel; and raise the white flag, so Leola may Rest In Peace. These are "badges of slavery."

The historic Ebenezer Baptist Church on Auburn Avenue in Atlanta, GA will open its doors to Leola W. Maddox on Monday, April 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. She will join Dr. Martin L. King, Jr., Rosa Parks and our revered ancestors. We will watch her ascend to the heavens. Dr. Calvin O. Butts will officiate over the homegoing services.

Roscoe Jenkins Funereal Home, in Newnan, Coweta County, Georgia, will prepare the body for ascension. She will join Rev. Alton Maddox, Sr. and his wife, Mrs. N.S. Maddox in the family plot at Sunshine Cemetery in Newnan, GA. Repast will happen at the Clay-Wood Community Center in Newnan.
