Our hearts are heavy with the passing of Comandante Fidel Castro Ruz.

His prophetic and revolutionary vision led Cuba through its most difficult moments and inspired millions around the world in the struggle for true peace with justice.

Ever since IFCO/Pastors for Peace began to work in solidarity with Cuba, we were blessed to have had the opportunity to meet and learn from Comandante Fidel Castro. Inspired by his revolutionary example, we continue to embrace the commitment that he and the Cuban people have made to support the just causes of the world.

After the long and difficult Fast for Life, when Lucius Walker was asked what had inspired him to continue on a 96-day hunger strike, he simply said, "It was the example of Fidel and his resistance".

That same example carries us forward and many caravans later, our steadfast support for the Cuban revolution only grows, as we see his ideas come to fruition.

The hundreds of US medical students that have graduated from Cuba's Latin American School of Medicine, are a testament to Fidel Castro's vision of a world in which health care is a human right for all.

Our grief and pain in these moments only impel us to continue walking in the footsteps of revolutionaries like Lucius Walker and Fidel Castro.

We extend to Raul, and all our brothers and sisters in Cuba, a deep embrace of solidarity. Trust that you can always count on our love and support!
