At a National Press Club Newsmakers news conference on Tuesday, July 28, a group of African diplomats will discuss the new economic opportunities afforded to African countries by the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), part of the U.S. Trade and Development Act.

Appearing will be Ambassadors Michael Moussa-Adamo of Gabon, Eliachim Molapi Sebatane of Lesotho – cochairmen of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) Ambassadors Group – as well as Mninwa Mahlangu of South Africa and Tarek Ben Youssef, the Charge d'Affaires of the 54-nation African Union to the U.S.

AGOA offers tangible incentives for African countries to open their economies and build free markets. It also authorized a new trade and investment policy for Africa, renewed the generalized system of preferences and reauthorized the trade adjustment assistance programs.

This NPC Newsmakers news conference is scheduled for Tuesday, July 28 at 1 p.m. in the club's Zenger Room, on the 13th floor of the National Press Building, at 529 14th Street NW, Washington DC, 20045.

Like all Newsmakers events, this news conference is open to credentialed media and NPC members, free of charge. No advance registration is required.
