The 2016 Diversity Immigrant Visa program is a United States congressionally mandated lottery program for receiving a United States Permanent Resident Card "Green Card". The entry submission period for DV-2016 is from 12:00PM EDT (GMT -4) on October 1, 2014 to 12:00PM EDT (GMT -4) on November 3, 2014. The entry form will only be available for submission during this period and this period only. Applicants will be able to check if their application was selected online beginning May 5, 2015.

The Diversity Immigrant Visa Program makes available up to 50,000 diversity visas annually, drawn from random selection among all entries to persons who meet strict eligibility requirements from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States. Most of the countries in Africa are eligible except Nigeria. Natives from Bangladesh, India, Mainland China, Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, Vietnam, Pakistan and Peru is a partial list of individuals not eligible for the 2016 diversity program this year. The law and regulations require that every DV entrant must have at least: A high school education or its equivalent; or two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation requiring at least two years' training or experience.

Any non-United States resident that seeks to gain Green Card that is from an eligible country that meets the requirement should apply whether currently in the United States or aboard. This includes foreign workers that are waiting to obtain a green card through the labor certification program. Apply here at www.dvlottery.state.gov. There is no fee for applying online, however if selected there are visa processing fees.
