Tillman stated, "With the conclusion of the 2014 midterm election, we are proud of the progress that this grassroots, independent campaign has made with a war chest of $400.  We started this campaign with no support from the National or Local republican party and the traditional Black press and media ignoring my candidacy and my message that there needs to be a voice in the Majority party for the African American community. We emerged with diverse support throughout the district and new light shed on our platform including a Universal Police Code of Conduct, ending the mandatory minimum sentencing requirement, increasing federal grant funding to HBCU's, supporting clemency for low level non violent drug offenders ; and removing barriers that prevent non- violent felons from re-uniting with families, receiving Pell Grants or access to public housing."

"The Republicans have taken control of both Houses and it is imperative that the African American community have a voice in the Majority to prevent the impeachment of President Obama, to oversee the appointment of a new Attorney General and to support the Re-Authorization of the Voting Rights Act of 1965."

"I would also like to thank the 70 volunteers who worked tirelessly and believed in our campaign and the suburban Will county voters who boldly supported my Black and urban agenda."

"Rep. Bobby Rush remains under investigation and awaits a verdict in the upcoming days. We are leaving our campaign open until official results are certified, and with the prospect of a special election looming, like the 2nd district in 2012, the Jimmy Lee 2 DC Express is still on the move."
