The Willie Wilson Story
Special Commentary by Carl West,

Let me first express that I am not making an endorsement of mayoral candidate Dr. Willie Wilson. Today, these Works of Words will examine a man who's done what so many millions in this country over its long history have done, and that's pull themselves up by their bootstraps to build something. And that's exactly what this man has been fortunate enough to do; through extreme hard work and dedication, he's built something! His successful companies have proven to be rewarding for not only him and his family, but the many who he's employed over the past 25 - 30 years.
After reading social media posts and in-person conversations, it's the people who've never built anything who have the most to say in relations to Dr. Wilson being without a formal education. I beg them to be reminded that this country was co-founded and co-built by illiterate and uneducated settlers, robber barons, thieves, murderers and alike. And my I say, all who never wanted to see a black man, in particular, enjoy the many fruits of a civilized existence. But this man, and so many others have accomplished the real American dream.
Dr. Wilson, after amassing a great deal of wealth has decided it's time to embark on another challenge. He announced nearly a month ago that he was competing for the office of the Mayor of Chicago. He was challenging the incumbent, someone who's absolutely hated by the majority, and to be completely honest, if he could win the 5th floor in City Hall, then Willie can also follow in his small footsteps, and reside as Mayor.
I can not tolerate small minded black people. They're the worse. These people do more harm to the progress of other blacks than anyone else. And what's amazing is that they really think that they're smart. But in reality, they are the ignorant ones. Facebook was laced with small minded comments about Dr. Wilson and his grade school education, and his inability to articulate the King's English. Now Negroes, please, you want to judge this deep southern black man's ability to use so-called proper English, when in all actuality, it's not our language anyway. It was a language forced upon us by our slave masters, now we want to judge other blacks who deemed unequipped to pronounce it effectively.
I'm from the south, my daddy and mother are from the south. Both of my two granddaddies, who are also from the south, had grade school educations, and both went on to raise respectable families (one with 20 kids, the other with 12). My mom's country speaking daddy started and operated a very successful church in the 1950's, which he oversaw for 50 years, and today still stands with family members controlling the weekly services and daily activities. My dad's country dialect father owned and managed a farm up until his death. The farm was established and harvested by his very hands for over 30 years. And there is not one of you ignorant educated fools who can hold a pile of horse do-do to either men, and they both had close to no schooling.
So if my objection is going to be against Dr. Wilson, it will not be because he has no formal education. Remember, when you denounce him on that basis, you denounce each and every one of your ancestors who where slaves and not allowed to be educated, but who were fighters of the movement for freedom and equality.
Dr. Wilson is a free man, and has as much equality as most in our current racial group.
So for people to criticize his intellect, is dumbfounding. You can't build a prosperous business in this country without being smart. That's a fact that no can dispute! I'm so sick of my community being ignorant. Most of you have education and speak proper grammar, but are as ignorant as a 5-year-old child. He may not have mastered the English language, but that has never stopped any other southern white man or present day immigrants from world dominance, especially in the black community.
Dr. Wilson is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of two very successful companies: Omar Medical Supplies and Willie Wilson Productions. In 1987, he founded Willie Wilson Productions, where he produced Singsation, the FIRST and ONLY nationally syndicated gospel entertainment show seen on network television. Singsation is seen today in all 50 United States, as well as in the Caribbean, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
In 1997, he founded Omar Medical Supplies, which is a 100% minority-owned, SBA and MBE-certified. Omar Corporate Offices are located in Illinois with distribution facilities in Nashville TN, Woodridge IL, Santa Fe Springs CA, New Jersey, and New York NY. The company distributes industrial and medical supplies in Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe, North and South America. Omar Supplies sells to many of the country's Fortune 500 companies. Omar Supplies has won several awards: Top Small Business Award 2005, Top Diversity Owned Business 2004, Top African-American Owned Business and Top Diversity Owned Business.
He has been recognized for his unlimited contributions in the Wall Street Journal, Time Warner, Business Week Magazine, and USA Today; all whom profiled this incredible rags to riches tale. He is the recipient of a Doctor of Divinity degree from Mt. Carmel Theological Seminary, a Doctor of Humane Letters from Chicago Baptist Institute, Honorary Doctorate in Humanitarianism from Swisher Bible College and a Doctorate in Humanitarianism from Denver Institute. Dr. Wilson even wrote a book, What Shall I Do Next When I Don't Know Next What To Do?
I'm only commenting on this very man who has done what I continue to say blacks must do; and that's build WEALTH! Dr. Wilson did that, and personally, I applaud him. Now, and as the race for Mayor continues over the next 45 days or so, TBTNews will take an even closer look at his ability to govern, and his platform for governing. Peace and One Love. I Write to Differ...
