The Board of Trustees of the DuSable Museum of African American History has announced the appointment of Robert D. Blackwell, Sr. as the Interim President and Chief Executive Officer of the Museum. Mr. Blackwell will assume the leadership of the nation’s oldest African American History Museum on December 1, 2014 and continue until the completion of a nationwide search to find a successor for the former President and CEO, Carol L. Adams, Ph.D. who has announced her retirement.

Robert (Bob) D. Blackwell, Sr., a member of the DuSable Museum Board of Trustees, is chairman and CEO of Blackwell Consulting Services. A well-known leader in management and information technology, Blackwell’s computer industry expertise spans more than 35 years and he is known in the industry for being a visionary and dynamic leader.

Upon his appointment, Robert Blackwell stated, “It is an honor to be selected by the DuSable Museum’s Board of Trustees, to serve as the Interim President and CEO. DuSable Museum has a long tradition of outstanding CEO’s and it is my belief that Carol Adams is one of the best.”

Clarence Bourne, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the DuSable Museum stated, “Bob brings an enormous amount of experience in running organizations to the Museum and will be a great asset as we conduct our nationwide search for a permanent President & CEO.”

Bob holds a bachelor’s degree from Wichita State University. He is a member of the Executives’ Club of Chicago, the Economic Club of Chicago and the Metropolitan Club of Chicago. In addition to his support of the DuSable Museum of African American History, Bob’s passion for and dedication to the arts has fueled his support for the Neighborhood Writing Alliance and the eta Creative Arts Foundation.
