Rauner Talks Out of Both Sides of Mouth on Trump Tax Bill Trump Tax Bill Will Have “Unintended Negative Consequences” In Illinois
Chicago, IL – Bruce Rauner enthusiastically applauded Congress for passing Donald Trump’s devastating tax bill, only to later say that the hastily-rewritten federal tax code is “punishing” to taxpayers after it passed.
As Rauner plays both sides on the bill, states are already panicking over the devastation the new cap on personal deductions for state income taxes could cause. Crain's is reporting that, “hearings, and maybe changes in state tax law, might be needed to avoid unintended negative consequences” of Trump's tax bill – the same punishment Rauner endorsed.
“Bruce Rauner was talking out of both sides of his mouth by applauding Congress for ramming through a bill he now describes as ‘punishing’ to taxpayers,” said Pritzker campaign spokeswoman Jordan Abudayyeh. “This governor failed to stand up for the middle class when it mattered and is now paying lip service to the pain the bill will cause after quietly admitting how devastating it actually is for Illinois families.”
