Preckwinkle Sales Tax versus Stroger Sales Tax Analysis
I am waiting to see the public and political analysis on this latest Sales Tax Debate that MUST surely have to be had for some sense of balanced civic education. I want to see just HOW the major media analyzes how they publicly treat current County Board President Toni Preckwinkle with her proposed Sales Tax to deal with RE-acting on how to solve the County debt VERSUS how they did a very public, personal, professional, character, and (almost career ending) political assassination on former County Board President Todd Stroger for having the vision in his tenure to institute a PRO-active Sales tax to PREVENT the County debt from rising to where it is today.
Waiting to see just HOW MANY County business owners are going to threaten to flee the County under Preckwinkles Sales Tax as they threatened to do against Stroger's Sales Tax? Can't wait too see WHERE are the major editorials blasting Preckwinkle as an irresponsible manager as they did when they publicly assassinated the career of Stroger for the famous "Defeat The Stroger Sales Tax" Media campaigns. I may not have agreed with everything that Stroger did during his tenure BUT it truly did hurt my heart and terribly pained me to watch his legacy destroyed with the personal and public attack on his leadership for taking the risk for being PRO-active with his Sales Tax to PREVENT the County debt from rising to where it is today.
LETS GO BACK AND PULL THE FILE FOOTAGE!! We all watched as Stroger was absolutely beat down personally and professionally with his Sales Tax and now the major media and political pundits have absolutely NO REACTION at all to President Preckwinkle now proposing a Sales Tax to help resolve a County Debt that the revenue from The Stroger Tax could have helped PREVENT in the first place.
Well I also know that for many years the enemies of the late County Finance Chairman and then President John Stroger could never defeat him politically and son Todd Stroger fell victim to those took out their years of frustration with FINALLY being able to politically end The Stroger Legacy. And yes, a lot of our Black community, Black political leadership, as well as some Black media too JOINED in the destruction of Todd Strogers political career with the public attack on his fiscal leadership credibility by instituting a proactive Sales Tax.
The now VISIONARY Sales Tax of former President Todd Stroger that which revenue would have helped PREVENT this current County debt as he DESPERATELY tried tell voters SHOULD be defended wit this current STROGER Sales Tax versus the PRECKWINKLE Sales Tax.! I took some heat back then for defending Stroger AND I'll be glad to take some more for today rising to defend the Todd Stroger political legacy that we watched DESTROYED for his PROPER fiscal vision for the County budget with his PRO-active decision versus the analysis of today's RE-active Sales Tax decision by current President Preckwinkle. Waiting, Waiting, WAITING for the mainstream media and and even our Black media to PROPERLY provide Stroger with some "I TOLD YOU SO" time. Thats the LEAST we can do foe what we watched happen with the assassination of his political career for this SAME Sales Tax decision. The County DOES need the revenue, BUT it also needed it under former President Stroger too!!

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle describes to Justin the financial crisis and how the board plans to salvage it. Is a county sales tax on the table?
