ParentPowerChicago has organized its 2nd annual Chicago School Fair, to be held at Navy Pier, on November 14th and 15th. It is expected that over 200 schools of all types and all grades will be present, providing parents with information about their schools. The event is in partnership with the Chicago Public Schools, Illinois Network of Charter Schools, and the Archdiocese Chicago Catholic Schools. From grade school through high school, parents will be able to discuss all the options available to them. Also, information will be available for e-learning and home schooling.
The event will have seminars from education-related organizations, including tutoring, financial aid, scholarships and more. And, CPS will have counselors present to help parents learn about selective enrollment, charter schools and answer questions parents may have.
Admission is free for parents and family members, and free for participating schools and related resources. Parents, schools and resources can find out more information about the School Fair, transportation and other activities on parentpowerchicago.org. Parents are being encouraged to register on-line, so they can avoid the long-lines that were experienced last year.
Last year, at the first School Fair, there were over 19,000 parents and children attending; and about 200 schools. This year, because of the success of the program last year, more schools and more parents are expected.
"There are over 400,000 school aged children in Chicago. The Chicago School Fair makes it easy for parents to see all the types of schools available to them, and find the right school, and the right fit for their children", noted Stanley Anderson, executive director for ParentPowerChicago.
