MORE PRAISES “OPEN PRIMARY” DECISION
FOR COOK COUNTY STATE’S ATTORNEY RACE

Chicago, IL, August 19, 2015 – Cook County State’s Attorney candidate Donna More said today that the Democrat Party’s decision to hold an open primary was “a great day for Cook County Democrats.”

“Voters deserve a choice in this important election,” More said.

“The State’s Attorney’s Office needs a leader who is accountable and transparent,” she said. “This move is an important first step because it gives voters a chance to choose a prosecutor who can rebuild the community’s trust in the office.”

The decision by Party leaders to withhold endorsement for the race next Spring means that More and other declared candidates will have a level playing field for their challenge against incumbent Anita Alvarez.

“I think there is widespread agreement that the current State’s Attorney isn’t getting the job done when it comes to fairness and community safety and security,” More asserted. “It’s time for voters to get a chance to choose new, active leadership over the incumbent’s more passive case processor approach.

“The open primary shows that the Democrat Party of Cook County will let voters decide based on credentials and alternative visions for the role of the chief prosecutor,”  More concluded.

During her presentation to the slating committee yesterday, More stressed her credentials as a prosecutor, former Illinois state regulator, and successful lawyer. She pledged to work with community advocates, legislators and law enforcement agencies to stop wasting money; find solutions to gun violence; and give kids, veterans, and the mentally ill a chance to escape the vicious cycle of “jail to crime and back to jail.”
