Chicago-Midwest

The Rev. Cy Fields of the New Landmark Baptist church states, "As a pastor I am morally curious about the content of this secretive CPD video that had to have a judge rule for its release. There are numerous questions the Mayor, Chicago Police Department, and other elected officials need to answer.  I ask other faith leaders to watch this video with the questions; Why the delay in releasing the tape?  Why a City settlement before a lawsuit was filed and an investigation completed? And How far up does the accountability ladder go? After reading media reports, this shooting sounds like an unjustified target practice on a human being followed by a cover-up to protect political interests.”

"By all accounts the Laquan McDonald video we will see, will be inexcusable and a shock to our human conscience", says Rev. Marshall Hatch of the New Mount Pilgrim Baptist church. "The video release will raise more questions than answers. Which public officials knew about the contents and when, and when they saw the evidence, what did they do, or not do about what they knew? Why was the police officer in question still on duty with a gun and a badge a full year after the incident? The city has settled, but this case is far from over."  Hatch continued.

Pastor Ira Acree of the Greater St. John Bible Church added, "I commend Cook County Judge Franklin Valderrama for the courageous ruling in ordering the Chicago Police department to release the 2014 dash cam video of a police shooting a 17 year old 16 times. From all reports the video is egregious and diabolical, but I will reserve my opinion and analysis until after I've seen the video in its entirety. I, like many other members of my community, am deeply troubled by the handling of this case. There are certainly many unanswered questions."
