At 1pm EST today, Mumia Abu-Jamal had a medical emergency  and  was taken to the Intensive Care Unit at Schuylkill Medical Center in Pottsville,  PA. We need your immediate help to make sure that Mumia's family will be able to visit him NOW.

"Dear Brothers and Sisters:
Heidi Elizabeth Boghosian and I traveled to Frackville, PA to visit Mumia today because we knew that he was not well. When we arrived we were told that he was hospitalized. We did a little reconnaissance and were able to get into the unit where he was being held, but were not let in to see him . We were within 10 feet, spoke to his nurses, and delivered a note saying that we are here. Unclear that he got it. Four uniformed guards are outside his room. Mumia has been sick for months. He landed in the hospital because he did not get the proper care. We were just asked to vacate the building. It's time to mobilize to defend Mumia's life.     MUMIA IN MEDICAL DANGER!
    MEDICAL MISTREATMENT, DENIAL OF FAMILY ACCESS,
    CONDEMNED!
     
                    The Malcolm X Commemoration Committee has learned that yesterday Mumia Abu-Jamal was put in intensive care in a diabetic coma in a Pennsylvania hospital (Schuylkill Medical Center) and that his family has been denied access to him.
              We roundly condemn this dangerous medical seclusion at such a critical time and condemn this as a violation of his human rights!
              Mumia has been a model prisoner, patiently and respectfully battling with a series of recent medical challenges, and has done nothing that merits this inhumane medical seclusion.
              It is no secret that Mumia’s jailers hate that he is no longer on death row and no longer is in the tortured seclusion of death row and would love nothing more for “something to happen” before we are able to secure his long overdue freedom.
              We make that point insistently because the behavior of his jailers, the manner in which he is being treated, dangerously parallels how the late Phil Africa was treated in January. The outcome left Phil dead and with no questions being answered.
              That is not going to happen again!
              We demand, as does the rest of the entire international human rights community that Mumia’s family be given access to him immediately and  are given the first and last say as to how he is be medically treated!
              We call on everyone concerned about his human rights and everyone’s human rights to call the numbers below with the same demands!
