HOW DO WE CELEBRATE DR. KING'S BIRTHDAY?? I answer this question EASILY each year but evidentally most others don't agree but Dr. King made it CLEAR with the last project he worked on before he died just how he was planning to deal in part with urban ills and that was through ECONOMICS. IF his economic agenda was JUST FOLLOWED by all those who will be celebrating him, the Black and poor communities would not be suffering from the violence it is experiencing today.
So on this upcoming Dr. King commemoration I will state my annual challenge that we use the birthday of Dr. King to give re-birth to his POOR PEOPLES CAMPAIGN, starting at the core with his first direction that Black and poor communities would start using their consumer power towards the community owned financial institutions that would be used to create, sustain and increase our own community businesses and jobs, and second he said that Black and poor communities should protest the major corporations that existed in our communities that did not have economic benefits agreements with the local business and service providers from those communities.
His DREAM would be more of a reality IF people would JUST FOLLOW the instructions he left PERIOD. STUNNING TO ME that so many who complain about the conditions of the violence in our Black and poor communities dont work as hard on the ECONOMIC VIOLENCE at the root of so much of the violence. The best way to celebrate Dr. King's birth is to use his birthday to give rebirth to the last campaign he worked on before he died, his POOR PEOPLES CAMPAIGN. Continuing NOT to do so is an insult to the celebration of his birthdate
