Dr. Webb Evans is the Founder & Past President of the United American Progress Association. Some people know him as a member of P.U.S.H. Others know him as a member of Chatham Avalon Park Community Council, Black United Front, NAACP, Cathed ral Baptist Church and the Baptist Pastors Conference of Chicago. But most people know him as "Mr. Buy Black" due to his daily efforts getting people to "Buy Black" as a method to get Blacks off the Economic bottom. He states that "anybody can come to this country and within a short time they are doing better than Black African Americans."
The organization works 365 days per year getting people to spend their money with the business people who live in the Black community. He states that many people tell him that they don't hear other races telling their people to shop with their race. He states that they don't have to be told because they are already doing it without being told. Evans stated that "if others lived in the community and was contributing to the welfare of the community it would be different. But they don't live in the community and their only interest is to come in and get the money out". Since we don't have Black Business Owners bringing money from the Arab, Asian, or Caucasian communities, Blacks should keep every dollar possible in the Black community by buying Black.
In November 2012 Dr. Webb Evans appointed Minister Rahim Chesed Aton, Founder of the Temple of Mercy Association as the new President of the UAPA.. Presently there's not one totally Black owned full service Super Market in the State of Illinois and only twelve in the entire United States. It is a known fact that whoever controls the food have the ability to control those who don't. So one of our projects is to start a Food Co-operative Super Market.

I guess its fitting during this Black History Month I pause to ask the Black community to stop and recognize the recent loss of this tremendous elder, Rev. Dr. Webb Evans who made his transition at 5:00 PM on Monday February 23rd at Mercy Hospital.
We talk about how not to forget our community landmarks and Webb Evans is one of those landmarks we must not forget. There was absolutely NOTHING more important to him than telling our major leaders and ordinary people the importance of using our economic power in ways to sustain and increase our community businesses, jobs and institutions. His life and legacy paved the way for so many who will not know whose shoulders they stand on if we don't properly promote the life and legacy of Webb Evans.
Rev. Dr Webb Evans worked with so many leaders from the Civil Rights to Black Nationalist communities through the generations. He worked with those like Medgar Evers, Dr. Vernon Johns, Dr. King, The Honorable Elijah Muhammad to Lu Palmer, Harold Washington, Wesley South, Minister Louis Farrakhan to Rev. Jackson and host of other generations of religious, civic, business, political, and local and national community leaders and ordinary people.
