A “Holiday Gift for You……A Bank On Chicago Account” is the theme of the Saturday, December 13thBank On Chicago” Family Bank Day event at the AKArama Community Service Center, 6220 South Ingleside, at 9:30a.m. in the Woodlawn community.
 
Families seeking to break-a-away from paying check cashing fees at currency exchanges because of the lack of a bank account, can meet with banking representatives of First Midwest Bank to open a”Bank On Chicago” account for ten dollars on-site and receive a free One Year Family of Four Membership to the DuSable Museum, sponsored by PNC Bank , and  a “Do Good In the Hood” shirt from the Black Star Project after attending a mini-financial education session, facilitated by Athena Williams of Performing Community Solutions, NFP at 10a.m.
 
Otis C. Monroe, CEO, of the Monroe Foundation, coordinating partner of the “Family Bank Day” with Bank On Chicago partners, the Black Star Project and the National Black Wall Street Chicago, stated, :”We are collaborating with First Midwest Bank and PNC Bank and the AKArama Community Service Center to help families prepare now for the upcoming tax season by signing-up for direct deposit of their tax refund checks and encouraging money management skills through a mini-seminar”.
 
Recently appointed city of Chicago Treasurer Kurt Summers will join “Bank On Chicago” community banking advocates at the event on Saturday, added, “Bank On Chicago is an important effort to improve our communities and I look forward to working with you to expand its impact.”                                                      “
