Chicago’s Leading Women Join Forces to Exemplify True
Girl Power

Illinois State Senator Toi Hutchinson, Cook County Commissioner Bridget Gainer, and Chicago City Clerk Anna Valencia come together to empower the next generation of female leaders at Young Women’s Leadership Charter School Girl Power Luncheon

(CHICAGO) Young Women’s Leadership Charter School of Chicago’s (YWLCS) 10th Annual Girl Power Luncheon on April 3, 2018 at the Hilton Chicago 720 S. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL, 11am-1pm. will feature State Senator Toi Hutchinson, Commissioner Bridget Gainer, City Clerk Anna Valencia, Dr. Teresa Woodruff and a dynamic Student Showcase celebrating students’ accomplishments in the areas of robotics, engineering, arts, science and math.

YWLCS’ Girl Power annual fundraiser celebrates the achievements of an extraordinary group of YWLCS students in science, math, technology and arts, along with influential corporate, community leaders and prominent women in STEM fields.

This year, Senator Hutchinson, Commissioner Gainer, and Clerk Valencia, will participate in a vibrant and vital panel discussion, moderated by Michelle Relerford from NBC Chicago, addressing the importance of diversifying and expanding women's roles in the workplace as well as other social issues women face today such as the #MeToo movement. “It’s important for our girls to see people like them who have been successful to inspire them as they enter college and their careers,” said Dr. Vanesa Scott-Thompson, Principal.
YWLCS will also honor Dr. Teresa Woodruff, one of the school’s Founding Board Member, for creating the Women’s Health Science Program for High School Girls and Beyond (WHSP) and the Oncofertility Saturday Academy (OSA) at Northwestern University, which has been instrumental in improving access and exposure to science professionals and career paths for our girls.  “It was the Onofertility Saturday Academy that inspired me to become a research scientist” said YWLCS’ graduate Megan Ramirez.

Young Women's Leadership Charter School was founded in 1999, the only all-girls, STEM charter high school in Chicago that offers a well-rounded education in math, science, technology and fine arts.  With nearly 350 young women, YWLCS offers a safe, nurturing learning environment.

Help empower the next generation of women in STEM.
